No audio for clients during Remote Play Together using Windows 11 24H2 as host
There seems to be an issue with certain games having no audio when streamed using Remote Play Together, with Windows 11 24H2 as the host. Games like Vampire Survivors and 30XX have no audio, whereas Sonic Mania and Trine do.

I recently updated my main machine to Windows 11 24H2 and started noticing this behaviour, so I decided to try the same on a different machine. On this second machine I first did a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro 22H2 and as expected, every game streamed with audio just fine.

I then wiped the drive and did another fresh install, this time with Windows 11 Pro 24H2 and sure enough some games no longer stream with audio. Again, these were both completely fresh installs with only a graphics driver and Steam installed, using standard Realtek onboard audio at 16bit 48KHz.

The clients being streamed to were a laptop running Arch Linux and a desktop running Windows 11, both displaying the same behaviour.

+ I found the same problem on my laptop HP OMEN 16, upgraded to 24h2 and in brotato and there is no sound in the others

I've had the same issue. I've also contacted support and they just redirected me to using the Steam Discussions, which is fine I guess.

Also, it seems like the issue does NOT occur with Portal 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode One. Perhaps all Valve or Source Engine games?

Let me know if you can validate this finding on your side.

Well, I tested Brotato, Cult of the lamb, Stardew Valley and Vampire Survivors and not one of these games has no sound, I rolled back to 23h2 and everything worked, I do not know about the games from Valve

I was also redirected here from support

And I also noticed that the sound does not work in live broadcasts from Steam. It will work if you enable the option to broadcast all audio from a PC

check if steam streaming speakers are installed
gethub has them if they are not

on host, check windows mixer volume, make sure steam client/bootstrapper volume is maxed

thank you, but the speakers refer only to the steam link, installing or deleting them does not give anything, I checked

Yeah, I do have the problem, just wanted to add information that it seems Valve or Source Engine games seem to work.

streaming speakers are used for remote play

steam link is the dedicated remote play client app/device

this happened to me on last nights windows update, I am not on 24H2 but they released an incremental update that messed up remote play audio I guess.

I've tried everything volume mixer on my end, their end. Sound settings to verify proper speakers, tried unplugging other devices to see if it would work.

Remote play together is just broken, but remote play to my phone is fine.

I love non-consensual updates. Pretty sure it was KB5046633 for those still on 23H2. You cant roll it back. There is a reason I stick to stable, and its ♥♥♥♥ like this rofl.
