How to use hardware encoding on Ubuntu 14.04 host ?
Does anyone knows how to enable hardware acceleration for encoding (streaming) a game in Steam?

The Steam's FAQ says that both Intel with QuickSync, NVidia vdpau and NVENC are supported on host.

So I enabled them with :

sudo apt-get install i965-va-driver libva-intel-vaapi-driver

sudo apt-get install vdpau-va-driver

(after that I even installed the 32 bits version too)

vainfo says H264 is OK.

Of course I ticked "hardware acceleration" in Steam settings (I found it unticked everytime I re-run it).

Anyway... after having checked with F6 ingame when I stream I have the soft encoder (h264) indicated.

My system is a NVidia 660 GTX (NVENC support) and Intel Pentium 3258 (Quick Sync support).

I would need this hardware acceleration so I could stream in 1080p, for now 720p @ 30Hz is the max I can get, with artefacts :(

Thanks by advance for any help!
