Steam Store Selective Video Screen Flickering/Blinking on Steam Link Hardware
ORIGINAL POST:

A few days ago, my Steam Link device connection suddenly became laggy and this happened the same time our Internet access became problematic. Now that our Internet seem to have been fixed already, my Steam Link which is connected through Wired LAN remains laggy. I have checked everything including replacing the LAN Cable but i cannot find the solution. I did not change any software settings on the Steam Link host and client which I found to be optimal before. Then I noticed the Web Address Bar in the Steam Link host software is not visible. Thus, I went to Settings -> Interface and looked under "Start Steam In Big Picture Mode" line to check/enable said option like I always do after an install/re-install. But I could not find it. The "Display Web Address Bars when available" option is missing. Does anybody know if Valve removed it?

UPDATE & FINDINGS:

It looks like Valve removed that option under "Settings -> Interface" and made the Address Bar permanent. I found it was still present in the other pages except the Library of course. Silly me! :-P

Regarding the lag when streaming, the culprit was the game No Man's Sky. When I changed the configuration under "Display & Graphics", it required me to restart the game. Upon quitting the game and before rerunning it again, I tried watching some videos in the Steam store. It selectively made the screen flicker/blink while the video is playing. A few videos of other games does not do that but a majority did. I cleared all Steam cache and even reinstalled Steam on a different drive/directory plus checked all my network devices. But nothing worked. I was about to reset my Windows 11 OS as a last resort as I was really dumbfounded for almost 2 days. Then I tried playing the newly installed No Man's Sky game again and when I fiddled with the "Display & Graphics" settings and restarted, that is when I discovered it was the reason of the store video lag.

STORE VIDEO SCREEN FLICKERING SOLUTION:

In NMS game, reset the "Display & Graphics" settings to default. Then manually check/tick/switch each option that you want to change (High to Ultra or vice-versa). DO NOT "switch" all settings at once from High to Ultra etc. I then use "Borderless" and "V-Sync Triple Buffering = on". Click Apply button and quit the game. Lastly, under Steam Link "Settings -> Remote Play", remember to switch the "Change Desktop Resolution to Match Client" option (on/off or vice-versa. mine is "on") and check whether the store videos flickering/blinking is gone. It looks like the game NMS is affecting how this configuration of the Steam Link works. It might also help to turn off all options under Steam Link "Settings->Interface" except "Scale Fonts & Icons...". Rerun NMS game to play or try reconfiguring it again.

Note: I also have set in my Nvidia Control Panel to use V-sync Triple Buffering. I have also turned off all VRR / Adaptive Sync / Gsync to off on both TV and Host PC. If you're using wired Ethernet connection, check that the RJ45 connectors are good and plugged snuggly. Lastly, if you're using an HDMI Splitter, test direct cable connection first from Steam Link hardware device to your Monitor before utilizing an HDMI Splitter just to narrow down that the issue is not related to the connecting HDMI Cables.

I hope someone will find this information useful someday. Good luck to you if you're experiencing the same problems.
