Enter the following code into steam running on remote computer

I've never had to do this before and that computer is an hour away, so I can't really pop over there to enter it. Why is this just now popping up today?

what client and device type?
steam windows, or link app for windows or device?

there are 2 code types
a paring code, that the link app gives, enter this on the host pc
steam -> settings -> remote play -> [pair link]

and connect code, set it on the host pc, and enter this on the link client at each connect
steam -> settings -> remote play -> [set security code]

I was only able to solve this by installing Teamviewer on my phone and PC. I didn't want to install it on the PC I was playing from, which would have been easier in some ways. The whole "pair steam link" thing just never worked because I think it's related to the actual Steam Link app, which is not the same as Remote Play...confusing. I just started the game while I had a Teamviewer session open on my phone and saw the dialog box to accept the access code pop up and I was off and running. Don't mess with pairing. Just start the game with a remote desktop session. It seems that once you've entered the code one time, it doesn't ask for another unless you've disabled remote play at some point.
