Can't stream 4k
I'm having trouble getting Steam Remote play to stream in 4k on my TV. Every time I connect it connects at 1920x1080 (as seen through the overlay). The TV is a Samsung 4k TV with 144hz refresh; In running the Steam remote app through a Chromecast with Google TV. The client is set to beautiful and 4k resolution, hardware encoding and decoding is enabled.

My PC has a 4k monitor and a 4k dummy plug; both register as 4k when I look in Windows. I have AMD hardware encoding enabled, and match resolution to client on. I have max 4k resolution selected on the Desktop as well.

The desktop is more than capable - RX 7900xtx GPU, Ryzen 7700x CPU, 32 GB RAM. Both the Chromecast and the Desktop are connected to the router via Ethernet. The games I'm playing are also configured for 4k resolution.

What am I missing?

does the chromecast with google tv support 4k? i know they have a HD and a 4K version of the device. other than that i would suggest rechecking the settings in steam on desktop that host and advanced client settings are set to 4k.

Do you know if the desktops resolution is changing when you try to play from tv?

It is the Chromecast 4k - verified 4k content on other services.

It does seem the desktop resolution is changing to HD - if I go to the desktop from the remote client and click display settings, it shows the virtual monitor at 1920x1080. Once I disconnect I can view the virtual monitor showing at 4k.

whats the desktop display res?

if its not 4k, add the 4k res in the gpu control panel (and enable gpu scaling so something will display on host pc)
steam -> settings -> remote play
tick change res to match client

and on client link app settings
make sure display res is set to 4k

Desktop display resolution is 4k. Desktop steam is set to a max resolution of 4k. The game I am testing with is set to 4k. The client steam app (Chromecast with Google TV, 4k) is set to 4k. I've confirmed that the Chromecast is outputting 4k to the TV. However the capture resolution is listed as 1920x1080 in the overlay.

tv app?

tv mfgs are stupid, still putting 'fast' (100m/bs) lan ports on them
steam remote play at 4k needs about douible that
use wifi, as that can go faster than the tvs lan port

on host, check host and client streaming settings, both are used for hosting
limit res to 4k, and bandwidth to unlimited and quality to beautiful
Hi, im facing same issue with AppleTV4K, it looks like steamlink is forcing 1024p instead of take 4K

in link app settings, see if its set to limit res
on host, make sure steam is set to change res to match client
