Streaming with crossover cable (direct server to client lan)
Hi

I have a regular LAN with a wifi router (192.168.5.x) with my desktop gaming PC and a noteook.
Both have wifi connections within that network. I tried playing with streaming from desktop pc in the notebook, and it works well, but sometimes I get very pooer video quality.
I was trying to connect both PC and notebook with direct ethernet connection (1 gbit card on both sides).
So I would have two IP on both computers. (Router LAN network and direct cable network)

How can I tell steam to use ethernet gbit card LAN connection istead of routers WIfi for streaming?
Is this possible ?

I don't see a preferred option on steam. I know steam link has the option to pick between wireless and wired. You may just be stuck disconnecting or disabling the wifi adapter. Good idea tho they really do need an option on steam.

A possible solution to do this would be to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the desktop and disable wireless on the laptop when you have the crossover cable connected.

1. In network connections, right click your wireless adapter, go to Properties.
2. Click on the Sharing tab.
3. Tick "Enable computer to connect through this computer's internet connection.
Your ethernet adapter will now assign DHCP address in the 192.168.137.0/24 subnet.
4. Connect crossover cable between laptop and desktop and disable wireless on laptop (either through the network connections control panel or by using the wireless switch).

Any device connected directly to your desktop's ethernet port will be assigned an address on the 192.168.137.0 /24 subnet, and you will still be able to use internet on the connected device.

Thanks, will try that

No prob. If that doesn't do it, try bridging the wireless and ethernet adapters on the host (disable internet connection sharing first). If it still doesn't work, it would probably need a way more hackish way than I have time to describe at this moment lol.
