Streaming crashes my router

I lose hardwired and wi-fi access and have to reset modem and router. Windows 8 host (hardwired). Linksys e4200. Steam Link (wireless).

Any ideas?

Two options. Update to the latest firmware for your router. Next option is to buy another one.

You could try a router reset to factory defaults, and re-enter your router settings. Make sure you turn off all 'firewall' type settings on it. You need NAT and you need your wifi encryption (and a software firewall on your computers such as Windows Firewall) but other things offered by the router are not useful for security and just serve to muck you about (trust me on this or spend a lot of time researching it). That could be what's locking down your router, though probably not. Other than that...

Yea, it's either a firmware bug or your router is just getting old (heat, power, probably one of those two but could be almost anything).

I have this same issue sometimes with my system. I have an Asus RT-N56U. Both the client (rMBP) & host (win 8.1) are wireless (2.4ghz). It will sometimes happen at random, but if I closet the lid of the client without closing the streaming client program, it will lock the router up every time.

You might want to try a ethernet cable to the Link to see if it's caused by the wireless modem. If you think it might be caused by the wireless modem, you can try changing the security settings. Wireless security can cause high CPU load on the router, depending on the type of security used and the features of CPU in your router. Your router might be overheating due to the load, or maybe it just triggers a bug. Regardless, that is something that you could experiment with.
