This is beyond stupid, i use to play games on steam on my downtime at work. I literally can no longer do that anymore because i cant enter the code on my home pc, even if i tried to set it up and drive to work and do it quickly it times out the code for waiting too long. At the very least they could let us get the code from the steam authenticator app on our phones which literally gives access to everything... but you cannot lol. Steam might aswell remove remote play at this point. No one uses it in the own comfort of their house where their main pc is anyway so having to be next to it to enter the code its beyond stupid.
1. Separate Steam Guard Code specific to remote play you can share with a friend
2. SMS security code
3. email verification
4. setting a security key (Oh wait, you have that, but then decided to add this new nightmare.....)
5. Whitelisting other accounts that can request remote access (For friends who want to play a multiplayer game)
6. Temporary invite links for friends who want to play a multiplayer game
7. Not requiring this new code for the same account trying to access the content they paid for
a. I already have to sign in with a password and steam guard
b. I shouldn't have to be physically there or remote access the whole PC to put in this code
c. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET YOU ALL TO ANSWER US?!? IT SHOULDN'T TAKE SACRIFICING A GOAT AND SPINNING IN 3 CIRCLES WHILE CHANTING!!!!!
Thank you for your time,
Someone who's worked in the gaming industry for 20 years.
I understand everyone else's complaints, but this was not the problem I had, dudes. Lol.
(the client device will ask you to enter this on host, the first time)
the connect code you set on host can be none to 10 digits
(the client device will ask you to enter this when you connect)
steam -> settings -> remote play -> pair link
if the app/client is giving a pairing code, you need to enter that on the host
steam -> settings -> remote play -> pair link
if its asking for a code, you need to enter the code set on the host
on host, steam -> settings -> remote play -> set pin
that code needs to be entered every time any client tries to connect
Generally speaking, when I had this problem, the computer connecting to the host was requesting a security code that I did not set.
The issue is more complicated than that though, because even if I went in and set a security code on the host computer, and then entered it in on the remote computer when it asked, it told me it was the incorrect code. No matter what code I set, and entered in, I could no longer connect to the host PC.
Which is why I eventually gave up.
you need to set it on the host now
Even after setting it on my host, and entering it in on the remote PC, it would not allow me to connect.
