Steam Remote Play Connect/Stream Button Does Nothing
Hi,
the title is pretty self explanatory - I'm trying to play from my laptop (lenovo l13) to my PC, but when I click stream the game opens on the PC itself, but no stream window opens on the laptop, it goes blue for about two seconds and returns to "connect". No matter how many times I press, it won't connect.
For the record, my internet speed is 520mbps down, and 75mbps up, my PC is wired via CAT6 ethernet & my laptop is running on 5GHz wireless on the same network (also doesn't work on other networks).
The strange part is, remote play seems to work from my older laptop, which is an old Dell Inspiron 15.
I can list specs if needed!
Any help would be hugely appreciated, I'll paste a list below this line of things I've tried & also update the post if I find anything that works!

TRIED:
Reinstalling steam on both host & client
Restarting router
Disabling firewall & defender on both host & client
Trying different games
Trying from other networks

Thanks!

make sure windows network is set to private, not public
on router, make sure wifi isolation is disabled
any vpn is disabled
steam -> settings -> remote play -> allow direct = all/auto/my not disabled

Same problem trying to stream to a Windows VM on Proxmox. I can stream to other devices on the network.

EDIT: I click the "Stream" button in the game I want to play on the client computer, the game launches on the host computer, then the client computer goes back to Steam and the "Stream" button says "Connect".

Same problem here, trying to stream from my Windows PC to my Deck. Rebooting both host and client can help, but the problem always reappears.

Just wanted to send an update, I managed to fix it while trying to mess around with the Steam Link windows app. That told me of a few errors when trying to open, so in fixing those, normal steam game streaming works again.
The fix is to download the VS Redistributable packages in both x86 and x64.
The link to that is here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=48145

A little bit silly that the official steam client has absolutely no logs or error codes, but we move. Happy gaming!

This worked for me too.

I'm using a 64-bit system, but it looks like installing the x86 package is what fixed it. Just in case anyone needs more info:

I had these two packages installed:

* Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) - 14.34.31938
* Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) - 11.0.5.0727

I uninstalled both, then installed:

* Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64) - 14.0.23026

And it still didn't work. So I installed:

* Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86) - 14.0.23026

And that fixed it.

Just had the same issue, streaming to my HTPC was not possible. Installing the VS Redis x86 did the trick.

Thank you for mentioning this solution! :happy_yeti:
