Remote Play on Steam Deck randomly "Broke".
Problem
Started testing Remote Play. Worked mostly fine at first. Then (through the Steam Deck speakers) there was the sound Windows makes when you plug/unplug a USB device. No such event happened - just telling you that the sound triggered, which means that either some virtual device or driver had an issue or something but I don't know enough about the inner workings of Remote Play to troubleshoot further.

From that point forward, the Steam Deck can trigger Remote Play all it cares to, but the only thing that works for the remote game is the touchscreen. None of the other controls work at all. Doesn't matter about rebooting - both host and Steam Deck have been restarted without incident.

The "help guides" don't, because they keep referring to Big Picture mode, which I don't use and never have. Again, this was working perfectly fine until it wasn't.

I do see there's the "neptune" controller, it's active, been active, nothing's changed. Steam does pick it up on both sides.

The only symptom I see, is that it looks like the Steam Deck is doing some sort of remote desktop, rather than a stream, if that makes sense. I see the same things on the Steam Deck that I would see on the desktop rather than just the game stream itself, including popups and whatnot. But I can't tell if that's expected behavior or not, nor can I see any setting to change this behavior.

Any ideas?

Switching the game compatibility to Proton Experimental fixed this. Not sure why it mattered for Remote Play but whatever.
