Streaming from triple monitor desktop - how? - SOLVED
SOLUTION: For me the issue was Nvidia Surround on my gaming/streaming desktop. Using Surround I had set a 6000x1080 desktop resolution (for bezel correction) but once I turned that off and let Windows setup 3 1080p displays it works perfectly!

----------------

As the title says I'm trying to stream games from my triple monitor gaming system to my laptop. It seems no matter what I try I can't make it work, it just sorta freezes and sometimes even reboots my gaming desktop.

I've tried setting the game to single monitor 1080p on the gaming setup, no go. I've tried setting the game to windowed mode on a single 1080p monitor and no go. Just about the only thing I haven't tried is turning off the 2 side monitors so that it's just a normal single 1080p desktop. Doing that resets all my window/icon placements and is a PITA, so much so that I'd rather not stream than have to deal with that.

Thoughts? I saw some old posts from a few years ago so rather than bump those I wanted to start fresh - they also had virtually no details on how to make this work.

What's your graphics card and have you tried toying around with the encoding settings?

Zotac Amp!Extreme GTX 1080 and no, didn't even realize there were encoder settings (suppose I just stupid there!). I guess I assumed, and shouldn't, it had something to do with the game running on 3 screens on my main desktop and not being able to on my laptop.

Just try turning off hardware encoding and see if that changes things.

Actually I figured it out - the issue was Nvidia Surround. I use that to create a single large desktop (6000x1080) that gives me bezel correction and allows me to play most all games across all 3 monitors. I had some issues with VR games and as a test disabled Surround and bingo, they worked. Then I tried Streaming again and again, it worked.

I'll also say I'm super impressed with how well the streaming works. I've played a handful of games including Bioshock Infinite and Fallout 4 and with graphic settings at Ultra they run extremely smoothly. Also no noticeable input lag with my Xbox On controller connected to my laptop (via USB). My gaming/streaming PC is fairly powerful with a Core i7 4770k, 32 GB Ram and a Zotac Amp!Extreme GTX 1080.

Use NirCmd and set up an icon on the deskop to change the resolution to 1920x1080 to use Steam Link. Set up another icon to change the resolution back to 6000x1080. All it takes is a double click to change resolution. When you install NirCmd, and read the information on their website, you will understand what I am talking about with icons.
Doing it this way, you will not have to reenable surround, it does it automatically when you change resolutions using the NirCmd icons.

Use DesktopOK to save the icon layout on your desktop so that if you change, and it doesnt go back to how you had them layed out, you can load your saved layout with DesktopOK. This is how I work my Steam Link and it works very well.
