Ubuntu 18.04 moved from libva 1 to 2
I recently got to messing around with Ubuntu 18.04 and noticed libva1(not even in apt) was replaced with libva2.
Steam(for now) will not run with local libs unless you symlink libva2 to libva1, and we lose Hardware Decoding.

Does anyone know how to use VDPAU instead?
A8-7410 with R5

Edit:
On a GT 610 with 390.48 Drivers, it still just uses FFMPEG. It attemps to decode via VA-API but LibVA2 is still being used so it is just a blank screen with a bunch of ffmpeg errors.

+1 for this problem. I tried installing ffmpeg i386 and that didn't help at all. I don't have the option for vdpau either.

I think both Steam and Parsec are going to have this problem until they update to support libva2.

Edit for OP: Did you try installing libvdpau:i386? Can't test myself.

Have you ever managed to fix this issue?
Kage May 9, 2018 @ 7:59pm
Sadly not, I went back to 17.10. Waiting on Steam/Parsec to update themselves to libva2, as I think Tvviztid is doing.

Kage is correct. I'm sticking with 17.10 until they update libva support.

Hello,

I just posted an issue possibly related:
https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/2828702373006637269/

So far I have not solved the issue. Put keep an eye on that thread and I will keep an eye on this one.

Tried Xubuntu 16.04 and the issue persists.
Is there a chance the change from libva1 to libva2 concerns older distros?

Maybe if its pushed thru backports, yeah.
And/or if Valve Enforces libva2 over libva1.

But your 17.10 install runs fine, correct?

I can confirm that VAAPI works for me in Ubuntu 17.10

Yes, 17.10 works as intended.

New update, sort of. Parsec, which can be found at parsecgaming.com , has been updated to support libva2 (dropping support for libva1), so anyone running Ubuntu 18.04 (or any distro without libva1) might benefit from using Parsec as an alternative to Steam In-Home Streaming. As of June 1, 2018, Steam still doesn't work with libva2.

I recently read that Valve is preparing SteamOS 3.0, and it's based on Debian 9 - is there any hope the distro will utilise the updated libva libraries?

Kage Aug 11, 2018 @ 11:00am
Kolslorr, try Parsec, or downgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 17.10
