Random games no longer available to stream (windows -> linux)
I don't understand what happened. I've been playing remote games for months and suddenly a bunch of them just show "INSTALL" instead of "STREAM". I've tried restarting both machines, reset Steam config, etc... and nothing. The linux machine just says "INSTALL" but of course it's disabled because it's a windows only game. But I've BEEN playing this game over stream/remote-play for a while. It works fine on my phone and my steam link (TV), but my linux laptop just refuses to stream the game.

If I open a different game first, then click the game I want, it works fine. But of course I don't want to run two games. So what gives? What am I missing? Why are some games stuck on "INSTALL" and others work fine. Some even have a blue "INSTALL" to install on the remote computer. And then other games I can't even do that? It looks pretty random.

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm having the exact same problem with Streaming from Linux -> Linux. A few days ago I could still Stream the game Frostpunk. Now it only offers "Install". Other Games are still showing the streaming options, which means that nothing is wrong with my network.

Maybe there was an update that just broke everything? I wish I could see what exactly was special about the games that are not working now. It just looks random at first glance.

I'm having the same issue. Games that used to stream fine, now only have a grey install button. They work fine on my 'host', but no stream button available. (Win10 -> MacOS). Seems to be on a game level as others have the same issue with the same game (Age of Empires: DE)

My guess it Valve implemented a config that allows devs to disable streaming of their games. This is part of Nvidia Geforce Now Streaming as a service Scandal. It might be a bug or it might be intentional.

Seems fine now, started working after steam updated.
I have the exact same problem. I tried to set up my PC running Linux with a GTX 970 in headless mode and I cannot stream most games. For some it seems to always work, like American Truck Simulator or Brigador, some like BeamNG Drive rarely work but most of the time don't and others like Kenshi don't work at all. Is it just the case that some games aren't available for streaming?
Btw this also happens when I connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse so this probably has nothing to do with the host being headless. (the client is also a Linux machine)

[edit]
Funny enough I could install the steam link app on my phone and stream a game from the headless machine to the phone. THAT worked for some ungodly reason.

[edit]
I could make it work after I restarted both the host and the client at the same time.

This happens to me sometimes on one of the client computers.
To fix it, I go into settings and toggle Remote Play off and on again to force a refresh of the device list.

Many thank Mio. Toggling the remote plat setting worked for subnautica.

Reverifying the files on the host fixed this for raft, so it seems both reverifying the files on the host AND toggling the remote play settings on the client are needed to "fix" this.
