Having issues alt-tabbing on client
I'm not sure how to explain this but I've always been able to alt-tab on the client machine while streaming a game and be able to use other programs on the client machine. Starting today after a minute or two after alt-tabbing on the client machine the game i am streaming on the host machine comes back into focus on the client machine. If I alt-tab out again the streaming client freezes.

It's worked fine for over a year. I have no idea why the issue suddenly popped up today. I've tried restarting both PC's and made sure Steam is up to date on both PC's.

On the host I un-ticked the option for 'Dynamically adjust capture resolution to improve performance' which appears to have fixed the issue.
working :steamhappy:

Not helping for me. No workaround seems to. Sometimes I am fine for a few hours, sometimes I get the "streaming_client.exe is not responding" about 30 seconds after any alt-tabbing every single time...
Streaming client was freezing for me too.

So now I press Alt-Enter, then double click the top of the screen to enter windowed mode. Then I Alt-Tab to use other programs on the client machine.

When I'm done with other programs, I activate the streaming window, then press Alt-Enter to re-enter full screen mode on the stream.

No freezes yet.

Still happening for me here. Had trouble even finding this forum to look for help with the problem. Is any support offered for this feature? Been using it for ages without issue until this recent bug which makes it almost unusable for me.

Alt-Esc also works sometimes.
Really?
+1 - please fix, Valve.

[EDIT] What's awesome was that alt-enter, as was suggested above, worked - when the game I was streaming was windowed it didn't crash when I alt-tabbed away! Then there was a steam patch and now any time I alt-tab it crashes. Woke.

Any update on when this will be fixed? Very frustrating!!
Also having this issue. Additionally when I force close the stream via task manager (streaming_client.exe) and then relaunch, it completely kills steam on the host PC.

Having the exact same problem, and it only started a few days ago. Never had it before, though i've seen it mentioned, but now it happens every time i alt tab, any game i try. I tried graphic driver reinstalls, disabling dynamic resolution adjustments and all other tips i could find, but no luck.

This seems to help in the mean time.
Whelp the fix was nice while it lasted. Tabbing was working fine last week, put a game on today and the crash happened as soon as i tabbed out. Ill try some stuff and see what happens.

[edit] ok, so when i go into the client options and turn off hardware encoding im able to tab out and in, but the game's screen is frozen. when i turn it back on it goes back to taking a crap whenever i hit tab or window...

I switched to the Moonlight streaming client. You need a Nvidia card in the host for it but it runs so much better and you can alt-tab with no issues. I think Valve just stopped caring about in-home streaming.
