Client unable to use controller.
I'd like to preface this by saying that I've pretty much tried everything I possibly can, but nothing has worked.
Essentially, I've been playing Tales of Symphonia and the person I'm streaming to cannot use a controller plugged into any PC other than mine (the host's). From what I understand, this is intentional, but what's the point in the whole remote play thing if I can just play the game locally with my friends without it? All they have to do is plug their controllers into my PC and we can play together without remote play, so it seems like a pointless addition to me.

From what I can tell, remote play isn't detecting controllers outside of the ones plugged into my PC, however they can use the keyboard (unless I toggle off keyboard and mouse share).

If there is anything I'm missing, then please let me know, as it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry i'm no help. Just so happen to be having the same issue, client was weird this past weekend and was able to work around it by enabling ps4 controller support. Both me and my friend are using play station 4 controllers.

Was able to use the in game controller drivers before this past update with no steam support needed. Now my work around doesn't seem to be working on client side. Host side it works fine.

game: Divinity Original Sin2

I think an update may have broke something. I've been using this with a friend of mine quite often but then today it stopped working. Must of been a recent change.

Agree'd with it might be an update issue. Was trying a bunch of games with a friend who never tried Remote play and we were having all kinds of issue with Controls only being seen by the Host. Yet, few weeks ago i was having zero issues with other friends in the same games.

Same issue here! Tried using remote play to join a Tales Of game with my friend and my 360 wireless controller would not pick up, however I could play with my keyboard and mouse just fine, which I have been told wasn't the optimal way to play the game. If it's just an update issue, that would explain a whole lot, but I really hope this gets figured out soon.

Finally got in contact with my friends that i was playing the Tales of games together with, it no longer working for us now as well. I'm pretty sure the update broke it unless someone else ain't having issues. It seem to only see the host controller now... even if you have multiple controllers connected [host PC], it will not let you pass one off to someone connected to you. So yeah...

Same here, Wired Xbox controller (Logitech-310) was working fine a few weeks ago. We tried playing overcooked again but the host was not able to find my Xbox-360 controller but it could find my other friend's XboxOne Controller. I hope steam fixes this soon.

Yep, it was working flawlessly a few weeks ago. Literally flawless. But now, after one of the updates, nothing works. Friends cannot use controllers at all for any game.

thanks for this post, I was going crazy because I was new to remote playing and it just didn't work.

i've been having the same problem, so I emailed the steam support team but they haven't gotten back to me yet :/

Same problem, controller isn't recognized anymore.
Panda Mar 14, 2020 @ 9:51pm
Having same problem here. Client's controller is not recognized in games (tried NBA2K Playground 2, Overcook 2, Full Metal Fury).

Both of us using a XBox one remote controller, both tried hosting, and both being able to use the controllers as host and playing games alone. Not sure if it has to do with system not recognizing the remote controllers or if it's just broken by the update.

Same issue here (D:OS 2). Wish I'd found this thread before deleting saves, profiles, reinstalling game, etc. Remote user has mouse and keyboard input instead, but this can't be used for multiplayer.

i had this problem too. i think it might have something to do with steam beta. Maybe try to opt out of it and then try again

I can confirm that opting out of steam beta fixed this issue, let's hope it's fixed before this gets released.

I'm having a weird issue with controllers as well. I can remote play together with the first friend no problem. I can use a xbox one wired/wireless or a ps4 wired/wireless all with steam controller configs no problems and they can use whatever controller.

Friend 2 connects but i can't see their controller and they can use their keyboard but the controller isn't recognized at all. The 2nd friend can host and I am able to use my controller. We have used multiple games between us and can't figure out why I can't see his controls. No betas enabled for anybody.
