No sound in 'play together'

Hi

My pal has no sound when we try to play together. Is anyone else having problems like this? Is there a fix?

Edit: It has been several months now and the issue seems to have solved itself somehow along the way. Or maybe a Steam update fixed it.

The crashing is something ‘new’ with Remote Play together as well, I’ve raised a ticket with support under the ‘general crashes banner’ but they provide zero support for this feature and even refuse to acknowledge there could be an issue.

They just point to a FAQ and the community boards to see if someone can fix the issue..

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for everyone. I have no beta chosen and still have the issue.

Just tried this with my bf and it doesn't work. Both host and client have the beta on (idk if we both need it off, but it wasn't working before anyway), still no audio??

Also experiencing this issue. None of the above fixes worked and it manifests on both Windows and Linux machines.

Worked for me and my gf. I, as the host, was the only one to use the latest steam Beta and it worked for her as well.

Try typing this again in English. There is nothing called "device preference option" in windows at all.

If anyone is a client and using controller on windows try this:

Disconnect your controller first and join the host session

Connect your controller after that.

This has worker for me, no fixes were helping the issues - i had correct audio output everywhere, disconnected controller and joined host session again on NBA 2k25 and audio was back, then connected controller back and was good to go.

Not sure if this will help everyone but maybe it will for someone, enjoy.

For those who are having this issue, it's most likely caused by Windows 11 24H2. Going back to 23H2 fixed it for me on all my games. On 24H2 it only worked on some games and with the beta Steam Client. On 23H2 it works just fine in the normal Steam client with every game I've tried.
