How-to stream 4k from a computer which doesn't have a 4k monitor attached?
I currently have two machines:

- Host machine has a 1070GTX connected to a 1440p monitor.
- Client machine has a 980GTX connected to a 4k TV

I wish to stream to the client machine, however I have a maximum resolution of 1440p. How can I achieve 4K streaming with this setup?

If I attach a headless 4k HDMI adapter to my server machine, will steam automatically open games to that monitor? Or would I need to set that to be my primary display?

My radeon graphics card has a setting called “Virtual Super Resolution” which enables it to render in higher resolutions than the display it is connected to. It is compatible with streaming. See if your gtx has an equivalent setting.

I am having this same issue. I came across this thread in the same search that brought me here:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/general/guide-how-to-4k-gamestream-4k-computer-t3321938

Hope it works. I will try it when I get home. The short version is it provides a way (blind key-press path) to force a 4k 60 hz custom resolution on your primary PC monitor even though the screen blacks out (as mine did yesterday when I tried to force my 1440p PC monitor to run in 4k).

I am actually surprised this isn't a bigger topic. Tons of people have 4k LED VA TVs that would look great playing games that aren't demanding or competitive, but only have smaller 1080p or 1440p monitors connected to their main computers.

If you have found a different or better solution please post.

Thanks Mate, I'll give that a try soon. I have not seen any other suggestions.
