Friend can't do anything in-game

Trying to play Lego Marvel Superheroes and the game isn't getting any keyboard input from my friend whatsoever. I invite her to Remote Play, she accepts, and she can see the game, but it's like her keyboard is unplugged. Going into the control settings of the game and trying to add her keyboard doesn't do anything. Adding my arrow keys as Player 2 works on my end, but she still can't control anything. So incredibly disappointed in Remote Play. Thought it would work better than Moonlight or Parsec, but nope. Broken all the same.

We're both on Windows 10, she's on a gaming laptop, I'm on a desktop. I can post specs if needed but this looks like an issue with Steam itself.

there seems to be issues with conflicting keyboard / controller inputs or something. I have a similar issue with several games.

Same thing in Overcooked. Since we're playing with 2 separate pc's, thousands of miles apart, please tell me again why my friend needs a controller, her keyboard is suddenly not fit for gaming purposes ?

The same thing happens in risk of rain . I tried to play with my brother but anything he tried had no effect on the game except one thing. The gamepad could be used as a mouse on his end but the keyboard or the gamepad couldn't move any of the characters for him to play.
We did try other games and it worked fine. So I suppose it's just the game that doesn't work.
I hope they can fix this as soon as possible since it's frustrating

Is she able to do anything on the screen or nothing at all. I am having a similar problem but my friend can control the menu and stuff but when we go to add them as a player remote play thinks that their input and my input are the same, so they aren't added as a player but are the same as my input.

So far I've had this problem as well but this should not be the case. Remote play is advertised as being able to do this. Definitely lots of problems to work out

Because steam is just connecting both computers and streaming the video image to you friend, so when you friend send a key click this key click is send to you computer that then send to the game as you keyboard and the image of what happen is send back to he, it will act exactly the same as if you friend was in you side real life and clicking on you keyboard, that's why you need a controller and even then, the game would need to be coded to support two keyboard as different inputs for it to work, unless steam have some sort of a way to lie to the game that the second keyboard is a Cotroller and the player would have to keybind the keyboard based on a Controller but the game would think you are on a Controller instead and would lose all keyboard benefits for example some games change interface a bit with a controller with this way lying would be the same. I do wish steam remote play could had something to deal with two keyboards even if it would have some issues.

I haven't done as much with split-screen in EDF 5 as I did with 4.1 (though admittedly I was playing solo then for double armor gains), but I assume it to be exactly the same way. Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in if I'm wrong about something. But basically here's how it worked in 4.1:

• You can play split-screen with offline play but not online.
  
• You can use a keyboard and mouse for one player and gamepad for the other, or gamepad for both.
  
• While Player 1 can choose which of the two input methods to use, Player 2 must use a gamepad.
  
• If for some weird reason you have two keyboards and mice plugged in and no controller, I believe there is software out there to let you emulate a gamepad with a keyboard, a sort of opposite of Joy2Key. I didn't test it myself but it may be an option. It's something I looked into previously for someone else playing EDF 4.1.
  
• If you're using a gamepad that doesn't use Xinput such as an old Logitech RumblePad 2, you'll need to use a program like x360ce and then it'll work fine, provided you configure it correctly.

Yeah, tried it yesterday the split screen mode works fine.

If you have not already in Steam - Settings there is an entry for remote play where you can tweak performance if required.
But it needs to first be enabled there, maybe the streaming option too.



So if you are interested here's how it went with EDF 5 the other evening.
It was going to be a "just to see if it works" then move on to something else but in fact was to our surprise satisfactory enough to get a few hours game play in.



Launch the game on your own machine, then bring up friends list / steam overlay.
Right click on their name and you can select "invite to remote play" or something along those lines.

It sends an invitation out in the usual way that they can accept and then they will themselves be in the game so to speak via arcane streaming magics.



The host, ie yourself can cycle through menus to get the session going but make sure at the title screen (press any key to start) your mate presses a button on a controller and it will confirm that controller is selected for them also.
Otherwise it defaults to keyboard mouse controls for themselves.


When you come to selecting a profile either roll with your own or make a new slot.


The type of game to select is the local co op split screen.
I think its the last one on the list since i'm fairly sure that online with lobbies to connect to wont work for the pair of you unless they actually own the game too.



Remote Play together as I understand it is basically tricking the game into thinking that there is someone else sharing your machine like you would do with couch co op and a few controllers plugged in.


Its also worth noting they too can control the menus but to avoid confusion they may not want to do anything until you are at the pre game screen where you and they can choose class and load outs etc.



If they are new to the game, start with the 1st stage and tutorial with the regular infantry dude until you finish maybe the first few outside base attacks so they get a feel for it as obviously the other classes are different to control.


If you selected your own profile, you will likely find you both have access to your load outs (i think) and you your self having already progressed will be able to do evasive rolls at the start, whereas newbie dude has not completed the tutorial and so must do that first unless you chose to skip those stages.



But yeah, it works and seems to work quite flawlessly considering my friend did not own the actual game was a novel experience lol.


When we played we both preferred controllers but you can obviously default to keyboard mouse by pressing "enter" instead if you wish.

So to confirm it does work? (Me the owner of EDF 5 and EDF 4.1 can use remote play together with someone who doesn’t have the game gets there own Character as well; unlike in 4.1 where you do remote play together but u controlled 1 person at same time) u following?

- If anything else just reconnect the cable to your controller during the session, this should "pair" the controller to the stream

It still doesn't work even without the beta and with replugging it, both players control the same player and it tells me I'm using a controller while I'm using the keyboard
