How to keep audio playback enabled on Host computer.
So, i have a steam link on my network i used to play games to my TV. It works perfectly.

However, my wife like to watch me play, and try as i might im garbarge at shooters with a controller, and using a KB/Mouse from my couch is cumbersome.

What i want to do, is be able to sit on my PC with my keyboard and mouse, put my headphones on, and play the game from there while she watched and enjoys from the TV with the surround speakers.

Is this possible with a steam link? I can already use my host PC's Monitor keybaord and mouse while i have it streaming to the steam link. Only thing missing is audio.

Just unmute your audio after starting the stream. Problem solved.

Hey there!

Until the last Steam Update you were right. When the stream started, the sound on the host PC was muted. Just unmute it and everything works fine, you have sound on both PC and TV.

Now the sound is not muted but is switched from your speakers to "Steam Streaming Speakers". If you switch it back, you have the sound back on your PC speakers but no more sound on the TV.

Any suggestions to solve that one?

I also need a solution to this exact problem. It appears that everyone else's solution "Just unmute everything" no longer applies. Everything is unmuted, but the audio device is switched from the computer's speakers to the Steam streaming speakers. It can only be one of the other.

In case anyone still needs a solution, I tried deactivating the "Steam Speakers" in Windows because I wanted to have sound only on my PC, and now when I connect my Steam Link my PC mutes, but after unmuting I have the same sound on my PC speakers and my TV. Hope this helps, I haven't tested it further because it's not actually what I was looking for.

In case anyone find this thread. There's an option now.

In steam settings> remote play> enable advanced host options (turn that on)

and then turn on play audio on host.
