PC to Mac Direct Ethernet Streaming
Hi All!

So I was wondering if it was possible to do Steam In-Home Streaming from a PC to a Mac laptop directly connected to each other by an ethernet cable?

Here is the setup:

Gaming PC (HOST) - Connected to the Internet via WiFi

TO

MacBook Pro (CLIENT) - Connected directly to the Gaming PC via an Ethernet Cable (MacBook Pro would maybe have WiFi turned off, and would get internet from the Gaming PC too.)

------

Why would I want to do this? Well my Gaming PC is located in my bedroom and my router is out in the living room. There are no options for connecting either the Gaming PC or my MacBook Pro directly to my router in the living room, so for the best streaming experience, I was looking at connecting my MacBook Pro directly to my Gaming PC via ethernet. This would mainly be so I could do gaming while laying in bed or whatever, when I didn't feel like being at my desk.

Any help would be much appreciated! :steamhappy:

What kind of settings would I need to change on the PC and Mac for using either of those solutions to work?

Would the internet from the PC be shared with the Mac?

Would I still use bridge mode on the PC?

What about the setting on the Mac? Would I need to set any manual IP addresses?

You shouldnt have to do much.

If memory serves, Using a crossed ethernet cable would be the same as using a switch. Your laptop will recognize your pc as a network device

With regards to getting internet on your mac laptop...I'm a little less sure. I beleive you would have to share your internet from your PC (i think there's a setting for that).

Once your mac picks up the internet, you should be able to log into steam on both devices, and stream from your pc to your mac.

Having said that, don't try playing any online games. I dont think a wireless connection from your PC would be able to handle it, and you'd get horrible lag (i'm experiencing similar challenges at the moment. Tried playing and had enough stuttering that I couldnt shoot straight).

Offline games though should be doable, assuming your desktop PC has the overhead to handle streaming.
