I don't know the specifics of how it's set up but I believe Gleaner Heights does have gift giving though it does have events as well.
There is another game though called Verdant Skies which just came out that I can confirm has no real gift giving if that's what you are looking for. The relationships there are done more in a visual novel style where it's done via talking to them and dialouge choices.
Now I want a harvest moon style game where you are the ghosts and stuff :D
Imagine a farming village full of ghosts. The narrative could be about a weird limbo where people who aren't ready to move on end up in this afterlife town and occaisionally based on your choices and interactions some might move on while others might show up.
