By that logic then Monika isn't straight either. As you can't count yourself and it's you she loves. She is in love with... Nothing?
By playing the game, and engaging in a role that puts you into the game you're implicit in the story of it. Your role in the game is created by the developer so your role as the object of affection is the dev intention. If you are a girl the developer very much intends for Monika to be a big gay.
As much as she's in love with an ideal she's in love with you. Which can mean she's willing to love a girl as a consequence.
This makes me think about the are traps gay question.
It anything, saying that it's transphobic is transphobic as you have no idea of what a trans person actually is.
So please don't use that word to refer to crossdressers or transexuals.
And if I'm dressing up in girl clothes and parading around, I'll call myself whatever I damn well please.
You are free to call yourself whatever you want. I'm just asking you not to use that word in the forum because it's become a derogatory term and a slur.
Furthermore, I do not stand by censorship of speech. I respect your decision to complain, but I absolutely do not agree with your view. Never would I ask anyone to stop using words. That is not an okay mindset to just start censoring left and right.
For the record, I haven't used the offending word since you asked me to stop. So don't just write me off as transphobic or something as I'm clearly respecting your request. Also,
no I'm not refraining from using the word because I think you're right, or I don't truly believe in what I'm saying, I'm not using it because I have a basic sense of empathy.
Rantasmo, creator of the "Needs More Gay" series, explains why the term isn't a good one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q78qaT8JZ_A
I don't know why you spoilered the last bit, but let it be known that I've never called you transphobic; I've just asked you to stop using a transphobic term.
In fact, I don't think there's anything more that needs to be said about the yuri content in DDLC, so this thread can probably be locked.
"Transgender characters, particularly trans women have an unfortunate history as being portrayed not only as objects of disgust, but of deceit."
Sure is a good thing a trap isn't a trangender person in any way shape or form huh?
"Their identities are used as plot twists, and in the most malicious of examples they're portrayed as traps."
In a vacuum it sounds relelvant, but within context this is against portraying a trans person as a trap, which again isn't the case when using the term. We aren't talking about trans people, we are talking about crossdressers. It might almost be mildly true that the word is offensive if we used the term to refer to a transperson, but we don't.
The forums you frequent are clearly quite different from mine where everyone says whatever the fuck they want, and they don't get crucified for hurting someone's feelings. This is literally what I was told when looking to get a second opinion on if I was wrong:
"A word is what people say it is and holds only the power they equate it to.
and even if I was offended...so what?
my offense means nothing"
I spoilered the text because it wasn't wholly relevant to the argument.
Finally, "Needs More Gay" isn't a very good title. I'd say "Wants More Gay" is a bit more accurate yea?
I definitely prefer the forums I frequent in that case, since the stricter guidelines means assholes get whacked whenever they try to spew their homophobic, misogynistic, transphobic, and racist bile. So far, the forums have not yet degenerated into draconian places yet.
But yeah, I'm done getting off-topic, so I'll thank you for not using that term and let you go back to Siberia, Komrade KailnoSpaces. May your edukation there reinforce your kompassion, kare, and kourtesy towards fellow komrades in mother kountry.
Now, as for the game itself, I would definitely not consider it yuri, but I would definitely consider it a good game. Definitely a great example of how mechanics can help drive and reinforce a story, and its creativity with its game engine is a sight to behold. This is a game you definitely want to play with the game's local folder open.
