Paid mods are coming back, in a way or the other. Starting with Rust. Wanna bet Garry's mod will be the next one?

Yeah, well they DID mention this was going to be a thing.

“I can only speak for the present time, but currently there are no plans for a payment system”

Presently, there currently aren't plans. I guess that would put people off pre-ordering.

Possible CHANCE. Garry Newman (or should I say, Garry Profane-Jerk F. Newdevilman) is going to deploy a PAYWALL on the GMod Workshop. If possible, please do be prepared.

just a thing we https://www.change.org/p/valve-steam-please-cancel-the-region-locking-of-steam-game-gifts need to do to make steam more for the pepole
Mr Adam Whitney May 17, 2015 @ 12:11am
Hey guys, I'm working on contributing to the group by making YouTube videos on my channel that will advertise the group. It is currently a gaming channel and if anyone wants to join my crew or give suggestions on what videos I should make feel free to tell me!
Mr Adam Whitney May 14, 2015 @ 11:17pm
Not wishing to break everyones heart or anything, but Valve has confirmed it once and many other times that they WILL bring back the paid mod system.
GET THOSE PICKET FENCES UP PEOPLE!
Bethesda going to announce Fallout 4 at E3 - just a reminder to make sure that the pressure is kept up on them to not repeat this!
Douglas Rattmann May 7, 2015 @ 1:27pm
Guys guys, if a dev does not want mods on their game, its fine!

Paid mods on the other hand...
XorUnison May 3, 2015 @ 4:31pm
Well, no harm keeping the group I'd say, especially if it might come back. I mean, yeah maybe valve got the message that 25% for the modder os nowhere near acceptable, but if I had to take a guess whether they'll make it right the second time... probably not. Third time's the charm they say after all.

@Tounaï: Forbidding DLCs seems a bit over the top. Quite frankly I'd hate to see them go as some games just wouldn't properly work without DLCs. Take Influent as an example, removing the option for DLCs from Influent would break the game totally. I know many publishers abuse DLCs, but then fight against that, and not DLCs in general.

So... what will happen to this group now since the paid mod crap is over? Will we keep it just in case it happens again or will we just leave it here? there's 1,853 members as of now so we can't just delete the group...

@ Abyssal_Wolf Looks like they've taken it all down, and they've left it to the modders to re-up their stuff for free if that is what they wish. The Shadow Scale set is up as of yesterday, for instance.
MOMO Apr 28, 2015 @ 5:28pm
Hopefully we can rebuild the Skyrim workshop to it's former glory!
Desmond Wyght (Abyssal_Wolf) Apr 28, 2015 @ 4:31pm
I think Valve took us a little too literally, and completely removed the content that was being charged for, instead of simply removing the ability to charge for it, and making the paid content free again. I can't even find mods like Wet and Cold anymore, and the mod author seems to have taken down the content instead of just making all their mods free again. I think our victory might be still be a partial failure. Let me know if I'm wrong though, and if it's just the modders being butthurt and removing their content.
guy Apr 28, 2015 @ 12:30pm
Valve apologised for not thinking it through thoroughly enough. Bethesda apologised for us not liking the nice thing they tried to do for us. No-one acknowledged that they might have done a bad thing.

I'm leaving my negative review of Skyrim up as a reminder for everyone to keep their guard up. Valve's statement hinted that this would reappear, sometime down the line, in another corner of Steam. It would seem we're not quite out of the woods yet.

Let's prevent the exploitation of modders, and resist the DRMification of mods. And let's not give publishers any incentive to release broken or incomplete games.
Kumar Apr 28, 2015 @ 10:04am
need 100% for modders
XorUnison Apr 28, 2015 @ 7:36am
I really wasn't sure what to think of this, before I saw the way the intended to split the money.
45% for the game developer? Well, they are the ones making the game so it's fair if they get a lot.
But 30% for steam and 25% for modders? Are they stupid or what? What does steam do that makes them deserve more money from a mod then the modder? Theoretically I love the idea, but whenever it pops up with these madly unfair numbers I'll join the riot.
Beatsbury Apr 27, 2015 @ 10:35pm
REKT! Congrats poeple, you're awesome! We should stay vigilant though, GMod might be next testing ground. And please, make sure to revert your reviews for Skyrim, we love this game after all :)

@ guy | against paid mods

Welcome to capitalism, this is been happening for all sorts of jobs, whenever there is a more profitable way to do things, companies do it.

Get out and see the real world for fucks sakes, this isn't anything new, embrace it because that's what's coming, oh and you kids are getting the worse, in a few decades robots/software will replace many jobs.

So instead of worrying about petty video games, worry about studying and finding a job that cannot be replaced.
Kumar Apr 27, 2015 @ 11:18am
more drama plz
guy Apr 27, 2015 @ 9:37am
@Panda You would do well to consider some of the implications of this. I'm really concerned that a culture could arise in which we have studios laying off staff because it's cheaper to wait for a modder to create that (and take a cut) than pay someone a salary to do it. We could be entering a brave new world of threadbare games and dwindling development teams, with new and precarious forms of labour filling the gaps.
Urah Apr 27, 2015 @ 8:28am
#Panda, you are so shortsighted that it hurts.

Change that 75% profit to Steam/Beth to modders, and see how little people complain about this.

(Even though it is a fact that rubbish greedy childish modders have heard the calling. Donate option would be the most reasonable idea)

Trying to make you understand isn't.

All this makes me glad my most favorite game of all time, KSP, doesn't have a workshop. If the paid mods spread to it I would be crying to sleep every night not saying i don't

I just got what i think is a great idea, we install whats left of the free mods that ahve to do with tons of followers, then give them the no free mods sign and make a screenshot of that an then make it you prfile picture. i suggest multiple followers as you can get up to i think seven followers.

sometimes I wish this was just a big giant troll by Valve, but sadly it appears not. It's pissing off more people than it's helping and they ain't doing jackshit about it. And then when it spreads to other games with workshop mods, the protests, oh shit the protests, it'll be worthy of sitting down on a lawn chair with popcorn and watching.

Free versions of mods now have pop-ups ingame to ask you to buy the pay-to version. It's disgusting. http://i.4cdn.org/v/1429952656706.png

Sign the petition if you disagree with making mods paid.
