Redux slows down R* Editor massively! Need help
Hello,

Since I installed the Redux Mod, the Rockstar Editor got very slow. If I edit a recorded clip, it takes sometimes ~5-15 seconds to create a new camera or keyframe or even to move the camera. Jumping in the timeline is also loading really long, ~ 30 or more seconds.

I tested the same in Vanilla GTA 5, there it takes ~ 1 Second to make a new camera or edit it and scrolling/jumping through the timeline does not take a single second to load.. It seems to me like the Rockstar Editor can not really handle the Redux mod?

How can I fix this? I would be really thankful for any help, I tried hours of hours to fix the problem yesterday and found nothing.. I renamed the mods folder in order to test it, and with a renamed mods folder (so that no redux files are loaded) the editor is working as fast as it should. So the mod has to be the problem.

(I also had the blurry effect when moving the camera in the editor, I already fixxed that because I thought this would slow down the editor, but it wasn't apperently)

[I'm using Redux 1.2.1 with the hotfix]

Hope that anyone can help me! Love your mod.

no help?..

I personally never use the R* editor. but i heard that redux has issues with it.
Since you renamed your mods folder, the issue is not with enb or reshade.
So my guess would be that the high resolution textures that are to much for the R* editor.

As soon as i am able to, i will downscale these textures and provide a lower resolution patch.
but it could take some time unfortunately since i have no access to the original raw data.

Thank you for the answer. I also think that is has something to do with the textures, currently I'm using Make Visuals Great Again, and there the the editor doesn't take long to load.

But I noticed that only the new recorded clips with the "Make Visuals Great Again" ENB are loading fast, the old clips (that I've taken before with Redux) are still slow even if I open them with the Make Visuals Great Again ENB.

Im not quite sure how R* editor works.
Does is record the game engine (positions, environment variables, level detail)?
Or does it simply do what Ansel is doing?

The editor records the game engine, so the positions, environment variables, level detail, cars & peds etc..

hmm. then it cant be the textures, since it would load the mvga files.
and it cant be the behavior of npc's since that is recorded and not calculated.
maybe really some detail alteration by redux. i can't think of anything else right now.

can you try installing mvga over redux and see what changes in terms slow downs/lag?

Yes, I'll try to install mvga over Redux and then test the Rockstar editor again. Gonna give you feedback tomorrow!

I tried it, there are still the long loading times so it doesn't really change anything if mvga is installed over Redux..

Could be the long draw distance set by redux.
i will check the files and get back at you as soon as i determine which file needs to be altered.

Thanks, appreciate your help man!

ok, after looking at the redux files, it could help to lower/raise values in:
visualsettings.dat which can be found in mods/update/update.rpf/common/data.

line 29: lower value (default gta5 is 16384)
line 497 and below: everything tagged with LOD
especially car.lod.distance.low set it back to default (180)

or if mvga has the file aswell, just replace it in
mods/update/update.rpf/common/data
and
mods/common.rpf/data

edit:
or use the vanilla visualsettings.dat if you're only taking screens in close range

Thank you for the answer. I tried a lot of things now:

  • I didn't change any values in the redux visualsettings.dat but I took the mvga visualsettings.dat and I've placed them into these paths mods/update/update.rpf/common/data and mods/common.rpf/data. So that the redux files got overwritten by the visualsettings from mvga. But it still needs a lot longer than normal to load clips, so it doesn't really change anything...

  • Then I tried to use the vanilla visualsettings.dat, so I replaced the redux visualsettings.dat files in both path locations mods/update/update.rpf/common/data and mods/common.rpf/data with the vanilla ones. Still no change in loading times..

  • Then I tried to delete folders/files in the mod folder to determine where the problem is coming from. I deleted update.rpf, common.rpf and x64, still no change.. So it can't be these files/folders.

In my opinion there is something with the x64a.rpf - x64u.rpf files.

I really don't know what I can do to fix this problem.
