Big negative was a lot of timing & timed things to do, couldn't finish end of 2 optional stories as they got tighter as it got on (but apparently you don't need to do them to 100% but I wanted to play them). No manual saves but each 'case' is ultra short & if at end you have missing achs super quick to go replay case & get them all.
In game achs tells you items you have & what ones you still need to get them. Hint button (which you won't need as it's a very easy game), no hotspot indicator but jump map.
Gameplay apart from timing things consist of walking close to everything/everyone for a interaction symbol to appear for each case, which also gives you all the achs. It's really well done, all the extras - replayable chapters etc. I just wished they didn't go down the timing route.
FREE P&C. For a free game this is good story led game for die hard P&C who like hard/try everything in inventory type games. Problem is if you’re not… very obscure at times gameplay and with the pixel graphics it makes things difficult to work out what they are.
Usual right and left click on items as well as in inventory. Manual saves and although good voiceovers thankfully you can click through the dialogue once you read it, or you’d be in the game for ages. I had to go to a w/t twice (!! Argh) and think I’d still be in the game as I’d never have worked it out or have the patience to try. Will support this developer in the future as he really tried with the story and a lot of the game was good.
Zero hos, more a short puzzle game. 2 scenes in each very short chapter which are replayable in main menu, no voiceovers.
Can skip and there are hints.
Achs are all auto given upon playing (don't know if you can skip & get them). Easy puzzle game for kids and adults. As in every game once you slip into the mindset of the dev, here it's counting different items in each scene for a solution to a local puzzle the rest of the game is easy. 1 sudoko, picross, and the old make a compass puzzle among others - nice variety.
I normally hate half animals/humans type storylines (here it's not that but looks like that sometimes) but because of the graphics and how it was done, I didn't. The setting of Japan, and atmospheric nature of the game but yet still good gameplay drew me in.
It's a quest game, you can't get lost as mostly there are about 3 or 4 scenes available to you. Things are mostly obvious to see to pick up. No hotspot indicator or manual saves and slow walking. There are a couple of mini-games - 1 arcade move to avoid obstacles but as I still managed in one go didn't die, and still got hit a couple of times I'd say it was not a hard one. Simple story but good, although English translation at times, is jarring.
episodic P&C only 1 episode made. Yet another game written by a guy sort of aimed for guys, but thinking if they put a cat in it, somehow it will appeal to women as well?
Usual adult humour with a couple of jokes. Short (took me just an hour and I was clicking on everything to get achs) Looking for the achs in these games give me the most fun, as gameplay is just OK, story super lite. 2 annoying fiddly minigames (trace route/line) - one you can skip which is timed (but there is an achievement in one of those puzzles). Hotspot indicator. But if you like those kinds of games this fits in with so many of them. Maybe once all episodes are/if made, it will be a lot better, story etc.

VG, great value, primarily puzzle games, lots of minigames as well as integrated puzzles. Puzzle types mostly finding codes/solutions taking screenshots then finding puzzle it applies to, but some lovely minigames with 1 completely new puzzle I've never seen before.
Minigames were easy but finding some codes for integrated puzzles can be tricky. Games do progress with story/adv. 3rd one is a prequel and explains what you've seen/story in others. Really recommend you play all 3 and not stop with first game as you will understand it more. No manual saves, have to play through all games twice -'new game' when you think you've finished it to get to the real endings and 100% it.
P&C. Urgh I liked their first game but don't remember the controls being this horrible, nor quite as pixel hunting. Story was deliberate off the wall/kooky not my thing. Help button shows general areas to see but it's not a hotspot indicator. It does have manual saves which helps with the point scoring to 100%.
Really annoying clicker first puzzle which just didn't work (keep exiting out of puzzle if bar isn't moving, for it to register your clicks next time you are in it). Can click through the dialogue (thankfully). If it wasn't for the pixel hunting I could put up with everything else but really disliked this game.
Can get all achs in one playthrough - tips - save before using hint button then reload, still will get 'don't use hints' achs. Save before last puzzle, then after finishing game reload and you will get the finish game twice ach. keep saving after you've won a round of wack a mole seems easier than keep playing, once you lose it seems to get harder. Someone said there weren't clues for the lockpick puzzle there are, 3 big different in game clues.
Turn off timer in options. May look like a QTE game in places but it's not, click and hold or tap a couple of times. It's all keyboard ctrls can remap it so arrows are movement. Although you do jump it's all auto, you can't fail a jump as there is no timing/reaction. Click on arrow then spacebar to jump there is no running jumps or anything it's auto - trust me!
Chapters are immediately replayable in main menu. If you miss any of 3 different types of collectables you can get them here. N.B once you start a chapter and then if you hit 'continue' game it won't continue from your latest place in game but where you left off in the replayable chapters. Save isn't auto but at checkpoints.
You can go into a chapter and choices will keep if you then exit and go into another later chapter ie you can choose to take a compass and if you exit and go into a few chapters later you will have the compass. You can keep playing the game it won't kick you out at end of chapter.
Deduct achs
At least a certain % you can get by replaying a 'deduct' board you've already done. I had made mistakes in 2 and never went back to do it right, but replaying a chapter I already had gotten it right on, the 'solve all deducts in first try' achievement popped way before end of game.
Locksmith
You don't get just by solving all puzzles there is a time element on at least a % of them not very hard but it's there. I tried redoing the door in the sewer one at least 4 times but the next time I was naturally fast and got it. It's not just the locksmith it counts towards but the briefcase (got one there) and other puzzles.
I work alone/team work achievements
I declined the compass (CJ) and the walkie talkie (Suzie) as well as flower in graveyard. I then trusted Suzie though for about 2 turns after she offered the walkie talkie.
"I work alone" popped for me in the mines with the dialogue regarding a lot of new information has come up do I want to trust Suzie. I then said No and "I work alone" popped. I then replayed that chapter for a collectable I had missed and at the same time/question I said I would trust Suzie and the 'team work makes the dream work' achievement popped. I still didn't have the compass or took the walkie talkie in the house but the 'trusting' Suzie twice before must have been it or it's very buggy.
dejavu ach
It will only pop when you replay the credits and only the credit chapters twice. Replaying the chapter before and letting the game run into credits didn't work for me.
N.B the play new game + will stop being greyed out after the dejavu achievement will pop and you can get back if you play the credits twice again. But it may look like you can start it but I and a lot of others couldn't get it to work, not sure anyone can. This "new game +" is supposed to keep progress and all collectables you've collected.
Stories aren’t that good, some are better than others. Whole game is writing down every name/place you come across and tracking them down to get clues. Then when you think you have enough you click on judge which will ask you the same set of questions to see how well you researched/know the case.
There are hints (which costs you points) but good if somehow stuck. These aren’t at all like any other kind of Sherlock Holmes you come across, which you examine scenes and are long.
You can get all achs in 2 playthroughs and as you can skip scenes - the second playthough which is super quick (5 mins?) so after working it all out is super quick in other playthoughs. First one was over 400 points then second playthrough was 40 points.
I picked it up in a super sale along with the others so it’s worth it if you get them super cheap. They do play fullscreen (options).
While I love these types of games, here it's very much a puzzle (minigames) as well as integrated puzzles, not really an adventure game - there were some problems.
I never got soft locked out of anywhere, the game wouldn't let me proceed so either they fixed it or I got lucky. It also wasn't the puzzles it was more knowing that there was a puzzle. Thankfully the cursor does change over a hotspot as for ages on the grandfather clock I didn't even know there was a puzzle there. Also this has the same problem many adv games has, you really have to be on the exact spot they want you to be before you can perform a task, and many times due to this you don't think something will work but it does.
I never had a problem with a puzzle (I did restart a slider a couple of times) apart from been very picky where you put items.
There is a vague help system but that depends on you taking a photo of a clue (take a photo everywhere for an achievement) then clicking on it. There is no direct hint or even skip button on puzzles. There are only a handful of rooms you go into and if you carefully look at each scene the clues are all there but it's not a handholding game like a standard HOPA. It's not an intuitive game.
The story was simple but for a short game like this it has to be, there were voiceovers which surprised me although not great at least they were OK. The minigame all but one I'd say were what you'd get in a HOPA.
I think all but one achievement is auto, the 'take photos of all clues' take photos of everything you find - all codes, take photos of everything. If under your album you are missing a picture take the clue of what pictures are surrounding it to know where you are missing something, not sure if you can go back and get all of them if you miss one but 99% you should be able to.
I really would like them to make a series of this, I'd pick up another one on sale like I got this one.
