Cat/Another cat in the dungeons

If they had a top down option and an undo button I'd recommend these games on the puzzle side alone. It's not that it's nausea inducing, it's not, as you use arrows on screen to turn it 45 deg.

Both games are non arcade, non timing/reaction. Use arrow/wasd to move. Your goal is to make a path to the other door and avoid traps or use portals to get there.

On screen on each level there is a paper that if you click on it, it will tell you where the traps are around the corresponding symbols. The problem is they can be hard to see and would be great if you could view the level from top down, also with portals you disappear and have to keep turning the 'set' until you find the cat again.

I realise this is probably a deliberate decision to make the game harder but its a pet peeve of mine to use artificial means in making a game harder ie no undo. A game should rely on it's level design alone for hardness/length.

While I don't like drab graphics and feel the type of puzzles and level of hardness (mild) would lend itself better to bright cheery cartoon type graphics, I would still be a fan of these games if they did those two things - 1) option to play top down and 2) undo. At least the top down.

I felt the first game had more lengthy levels in it or maybe by the time I played the second game I remembered the gameplay of the first game and found it easier.
Level map, reset.

It's a nice relaxing puzzle game with mild challenge. No stars, timers, limited moves to worry about just get from point a to point b and you've finished the game.

Hanoi Puzzles: flip match

N.B currently 1 broken ach. (edit broken ach has now been fixed)

Go into level select and click on challenge. In that area, levels you did under required moves will show up in yellow.

I just didn’t ‘get’ the game mechanics of the colored block as for challenge mode on the odd level (given below the solution) it’s impossible* to build on the colored blocks in the required number of moves. But doing different things as listed below on those levels worked (by trial and error) didn’t make any sense to me but maybe it’s just me not understanding the specific game mechanic properly.

The following levels I got ‘below’ required number of moves -
13, 21, 24, 29, 41,46, 48,49

Levels I think are impossible to do in challenge number of moves, in the way I believe they should be done. But I will give you what works to get through them for the challenge achievements -

Level 33* ( this level is 100% impossible maybe the other 2 are possible and I just didn't work it out anyway following should help)– Ignore purple stack symbol and build on the yellow tile in place
Level 38 – ignore one red stack and build two different color stacks at different times, on the right hand purple symbol
Level 46 - ignore the yellow stack symbol as in you don't need to move any tiles to it, and build a red stack on the bottom right red tile

Maybe the devs will update this but at the time of this post this was correct.

Super Box Land demake

I thought this was the demake of Sokoband Land as I felt some levels were very similiar, but trying the first couple of levels of that game it's not.

Ctrls were clunky and kept getting stuck in paths, had to press spacebar to push items. Everything including the options and selecting things in options were either different or annoying. It does have arrow as well as WASD to move. No reset button, no level map, slowest undo button imaginable (but it does have one.) Graphics hard to see if you could pass obstacles or where walls etc were.

I played single mode and only moved one character and all levels* are solvable in single mode only moving 1 person. I don't see the point of co-play in a sokoban game as it would be so ridiculous easy what's the point? There was also choice of mode - easy, difficult.
*One level, by accident I moved through a block which I shouldn't be able to, so got round one tile and pushed it by that glitch.

Arcade game -
This is the bonus levels, if you literally don't touch your keyboard it will auto move for you and you will get your achievement by doing nothing on these levels. It's very easy if you do want to do them although didn't know if the goal was to pop the non bomb balloons or avoid them.

If they had better clearer graphics, better undo, a reset (for a roundabout re reset, walk back to last level and then walk back again it will reset), level map, better movement with character so it would pass better in paths, then this would have been a good game as the puzzles were nice, although some easy there was a good amount of medium level hardness if you played solo.

Pirates of the Maverta

All 300 levels are working and you can finish the level, and the challenge levels I did do were working also.

It's sort of a slide to obstacle puzzle but has traps etc. First 150 (roughly) puzzles aren't worth playing as it's so easy but the last half has some good levels in it.
I don't like the 'free to play' vibe it has. You earn in game "coins" for each level completed then you can spend it on undo or a solution, hint or a skip. I didn't use any of these so no idea what they are like. For the purposes of this review I did use the solution on level 300 (100 coins) and it did work (super quick so you may want to record gameplay) but the hint for 50 coins I didn't understand as he went down a hole so I wouldn't waste your coins on the hint. Skipping a level was 200 coins.

GAMEPLAY
The goal is to hit all the pirates, after you have done so a treasure chest appears on the board which you have to collect (hit). You hit them by moving your character using arrows on keyboard. You know where the chest will appear as there is a red cross on the board. It's very much about what order to do things in.

Some quirks or things to note.
-You can go through skulls you just can't land on it if at the end of your movement you would be on it.
-Don't land on the 'x' if it's your last movement or you will die.
-You can move a tile onto the 'x' when the chest appears the tile will blow up.

Every few levels you are asked if you want to do a challenge level, although it indicates you can play them later they don't appear anywhere on the level map. Maybe redoing a previous level that offered you one before and you declined it, it may offer it to you again I don't know I didn't try. It gives you 100 coins if you do it.

I did all 300 levels and a good handful of challenge levels all normal levels are working correctly and you can finish them, the challenge levels I did do were also working. I can't remark on all challenge levels.

I didn't use hints or the undo button (gasp - well I wasn't going to use the 'money' on it in case I needed it elsewhere). At the end of the game I had 15,500 coins. If you wanted to skip some levels (costs 200 coins a skip) there seems to be plenty of money to do so. solution was 100 coins. So I can't really comment more fully on anything you could 'buy' as I didn't use it.

ACHIEVEMENTS

-You don't need to do any challenge levels only normal levels.
-You can skip a level if an achievement isn't attached to it and still 100% (I did skip one level to try this then redid it later)
-Level achievements seem to be awarded every 3-4 levels, I have no idea if you would have enough coins to skip all levels apart from the achievement. But as you can do multiple levels in a minute especially the earlier ones it seems a waste of coins.

I'm torn with this game, I loved some levels but hated the earn coin aspect. Sometimes there were bugs ie the crab didn't take away the skull but it didn't affect gameplay. Sometimes due to the angle of the board, traps were hidden and sometimes the graphics of the board were hard on the eyes. If you are a slide to obstacle lover, and don't mind a ton of so many easy levels then this is a good time waster. And if you want to do the harder levels then accept all the challenge levels.

Maverta Island

Harder than the other 2 maverta games I've played (Pirates of the Maverta, Kingdom of Maverta). Same style and type of game as the other two. See above post for info relating to that.

All 300 levels are working and achievements are attainable. N.B If you use the solution then you will have to replay the level again for there to be a tick beside the level in the level map. If your level 300 achievement isn't registering then check through all your level map to check that there are ticks on ALL boxes. I was missing one and after doing that level, then going back and redoing level 300 it registered. Even if you don't use solutions check the map as the level that was missing a checkmark I didn't use but it still didn't register.

This was my favourite (so far in the series) as all levels were working and it was harder, worth playing. I would have given this recommendation despite not liking this 'free to play vibe' it has but for a couple of things -

- The others had obvious bad guys here it's the "aboriginals" they didn't even need to say who they were - very unnecessary

- Glitches - As well as above not registering the level sometimes, sometimes the keyboard shortcut "R" didn't work but the onscreen did.

- Sometimes the tree graphics covered a trap and you couldn't see it, some other games were like that.

Despite the glitches, and the pay with coins in game you earn for some basic functions (although the "R" reset button is always free) I enjoyed it and thankfully this one all the levels work.

Maverta City
Theme is initially black guy "neutralise" police to break out his black friend from jail. Apart from police being bad guys, even when you can change your playable character (play challenge levels) the guy in jail is always black. Thus further enabling stereotypes, all around. Offensive.

Like the others (see above posts) if you just want to 100% you can skip/use solution and only play every 3rd level that has the achievement. Make sure if you use solution you play it twice to ensure the 'tick' on the level on the level map is recorded.

Undo always seems buggy in these games, white boxes appear on screen, so I don't recommend using them. The graphics in this game has falling paper which is distracting.

All main levels are working/solvable unlike a couple of these games in this series.
Gameplay in all these games are exactly the same just the graphics/theme changes.
Ada and Carl

19 lvls of sokoban. 10 levels of find where your path should be and then make it. Then 5 levels of 3D thinking which for ages I didn't clue into. You basically need to make a path on all levels that will go over one spot (arrow) that connects one level to another. Once I figured that out it's not that hard but 'understanding' what I was supposed to do/clue into it took me ages. 3rd lot which I found easier was move two blocks simultaneously.

N.B Finishing the game I've only gotten 4/5 achievements have no idea how to get the 5th achievement -"dusty"

100 Doors Game - Escape from School

Weird mix of a game, some puzzles were tedious others clever. Some just deliberately obscure to figure out what the puzzle was. And quite a few arcade or puzzles with timers on it. I had to skip at least 5 and those were mostly near beginning and middle the last lot of puzzles were arcade free. Although I couldn't actively recommend it due to arcade and hard ones, you can skip for free and it doesn't affect you 100% the game - you can use hints and or skips. N.B if an onscreen arrow pad comes up, ignore it you can use the arrow keys and press 2 at once ie pressing left and top arrow key together will move you in a NW direction. At least I figured that out for the maze puzzle as otherwise it would have been impossible.

It's a really good standard of game, from interface to graphics. They are doing this one free to get more awareness for their other '100' games which you pay for. This is actually free to play, no pop ups. If you play over days you can get a 'spin' of the wheel giving you something free - coins or an actual skip/hint. You get 30 coins for every room you complete, some rooms are very quick. You then use the coins to buy hints/skip. You can grind for coins and keep them, I wish I did this first as I was keeping my coins for skips but would have liked them for hints but you can slow play this over many days to 100% for free if you don't do this first.

There are many different save slots which was good.
Sixteen

It's basically a variation of a slider with the solution being the same (always work in blocks of 4 at the end.) Here there is a peg in the middle which if you turn - all tiles around it will turn. Your goal is to group items together rotating items off and on different turnable areas. If you don't play sorted you can group same items together in whatever order you want.

If you play a lot of HOPAs you'll have come across this a lot. Once you get that it's the same principle as a slider (picture with one tile missing and you slide pieces together to make a whole picture.) you won't have a problem.

There is a timer which there is no option to turn off but thankfully it's only there for the leaderboard so you can completely ignore it.

If they didn't have a timer, made it into a game ie with levels and set/different boards to finish along with the sandbox mode I would have done a full review in store page. But that and having an achievement to stay in the game for hour is one of my many no-no's.

To
100%
stay in the game for an hour (achievements unlock after you finish a puzzle.) Play all sizes and types. Strawberries are in the large puzzle. Like a slider I find the bigger ones far easier. I played sorted and group with small, then with medium and large. They aren't unlocked at once you have to play previous size and type to unlock the others.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2872422203

The sorted just means it's numbered and personally I think it's more difficult as you are forced to put 4 same items in specific spaces also the numbering - 1 starts in bottom left corner which I found took some getting used to, but it's OK.

Orbtangle

100% info is at the bottom.

As this isn't the very common easier freestyle 'untangle the ropes' found in HOPAs and other adventure games, this isn't relaxing. I love untangle the ropes but apparently it's the freestyle type I enjoy more.
For the price I think it's good for value for money - 150 set levels, and an endless mode. Reset (here it's called revert) no undo and a level map. If you aren't into achievements then you'd probably enjoy it more.

N.B to get into game move mouse to bottom of screen then after playing if you want to go to main menu hit 'M' to not exit.

The 'set' number that you see in top left corner is the number of different 'ropes'/loops there is in a puzzle. The 'nodes' is the number of knots that you can swap between. The goal is to untangle the ropes by swapping one node with another till at the end you have all individual loops and no crossing lines. A purple line is crossed/has another line in it and a white means it is clear.

There is a timer which you can't turn off, but you can ignore it even for all achievements (apart from take over 'x' mins to solve a puzzle.) There is also a move counter which you can ignore also (apart from do 1 hard puzzle in under 15 moves for an ach) but there isn't any stars or anything like that.

CONS

- no counter

I wish there was also a number showing you how many purple lines there were/ how close you were to finishing it, as one big con for me was there are lots of hidden lines. There are lots of puzzles with nodes/knots all in a line with no spaces between so you can't tell what color the line is. To make matters harder/worse there can be multiple lines on top of a line. So you have to be very methodical in pulling a line at an angle to see where it goes, then try and do it for the one below etc. Often I will get a puzzle that looks like it's solved - all white lines, only to find somewhere hidden there is a purple line.

I realise that is part of the hardness of some levels but having a counter would help with it. Personally some of these levels due to this, I found tedious didn't feel 'great I solved it' more 'I'm glad that's finished' feeling.

- graphics

While you could change the basic color of the background, it still was really boring and the most basic graphics you can get. If a HOPA has a rope with knots in it, sometimes even on a wooden board, which isn't graphically hard to do, I think they could have done something like that. As there are different campaigns - have a different themed background for each campaign.

- achievements (some)
I hate grinding in puzzle games for achievements. There is one achievement (I love puzzles) which requires you to play 1000 puzzles. There are 150 set levels, then you have to do 300 levels (100 of each type) in endless mode, so you have to play 550 more puzzles. I get that developers put in achievements, the different aspects that a game has, showing of that the game has an endless mode. I didn't mind (too much) the 100 of each type achievement that you have to do, but the "I love puzzles" was just too far. And tipped the scales for me to do a full positive recommendation in the review page.

SUMMARY
Good decent graphics would have made all the difference with this game, especially as it's a long game with all its levels and even longer to 100%. But its rare to get a full puzzle game for this type of puzzle, the price point is really good for all the set levels as well as endless mode. As long as you aren't expecting the easy freestyle untangle knots type, don't mind the achievements (or aren't into them) then check it out.

100%

Hit F2 for a new puzzle in endless mode. This way hard mode can be quite easy as you can get puzzles with nodes in the teens and lots at 20. Same can be done to make even the medium and easy puzzles easier.

Do 100 easy, 100 medium, 100 hard on endless mode. Do all 150 set levels (campaign mode). Then continue in endless mode until you've done 1000 puzzles (having gotten it, this may drop before required number I wasn't counting but seemed it could be)

Rest are - use revert a lot in a puzzle (less than stated 50). Hard level in under 15 moves (doing the above cheese very easy to get). take 10 mins to solve easy level and over 20 mins with any puzzle. save 150 lvls to favourite.

100 worlds: Escape the rooms
*make sure to go into options to change game difficulty to easy if you want your cursor to change when it goes over an interactive object.*

While this may be the easiest to 100% as you don't need to play half of it, if you actually play the entire game this isn't that easy in some levels if you want to figure everything out yourself. Although it starts off like a kid's game and I'd say most levels are easy, figuring out where to get the clue for the solution, especially in 2 of the puzzles was hard and still don't know where it was - a handful of puzzles I got by brute force esp near the very end.

There were a couple of timing/reaction puzzles but I found them quite easy, and the free game in the series there were so many timing/reaction puzzles I found impossible and the rest of the puzzles are far easier than the free game as well.

But even if can't do them in this game, you can skip either a whole level or any mini-game, sometimes if you click the hint button it will keep giving you the answer until it solves it. And as you aren't penalized (can 100% using hints and skips, in fact there are achs for doing so) it's as a relaxing game as you want it to be. The story is lite but glad it's there, the graphics are lovely and it was very enjoyable, nice game to play with kids as well.

A little to the left

The puzzles themselves are all either easy or on the easy side once you figure out what the objective is. Figuring out the objective is the true actual puzzle, trying to get on the developer's wavelength. Although that in itself isn't really hard as it's mostly obvious and when it's not or when there are 3 stars attached to a puzzle which means solve it in 3 different ways, there aren't that many things it can be. Figuring out HOW to do the star constellation took me the longest.

The puzzles are geared toward the non-logical puzzle type of person as it's not the 'rotating rings'/slider/jigsaw type but the 'put in order in terms of 'x''/tidy things up type. So it's a very different type of puzzle game. There are hints and skips for levels. I got it on sale which I was glad I did as I thought it was overpriced for what it was, although having 'daily' puzzles which are just exactly the same as the main game, gives it some needed added element.

If you want to stretch your brain and love more traditional type of puzzles, this isn't that type of game. It's aimed for those wanting a really simple puzzle but with variety and nice graphics.

They have just made some achs simpler especially the near impossible swipe all the credits one which I only got as I switched to my touchscreen laptop. I haven't tried it since but reports seem to be people got it now when they couldn't before, so it must be easier now. There are a couple of other timing achievements, but regarding puzzles - only 1 which requires not super fast reaction but fast enough.

It's very different to what I usually play, which I like, they've removed the worst of the achievements (all the special event achs and play for a year) now you've only to play for 100 days and play 30 days consecutively. They've made the timing things easier, and the developer is super helpful and active in the forum.

Chess Dungeons: Shubousha

No timers, or arcade elements like other developers have introduced in their chess games. I played this with "?" turned off and I got no help where a piece could go. But when grinding for an ach* I noticed that some of these weren't right - a pawn in game can go 1 or 2 moves but it would only show 2 moves.

Cheap, lovely graphics, sadly both very rare with minimalist games nowadays. I was loving this but there were far too many levels I shouldn't have won and it let me. At the end if you got into a stalemate you would always win, and sometimes the AI wouldn't take a move that it should have.

So I won the level far more times than I should have and by the end it left me unsatisfied as I didn't feel I won the level more the game deliberately let me. And it just wasn't the end moves but that was what was more frequent.

I know there are lots of people that just want the easiest game possible but as this I would guess, attract actual chess players - I think it would leave a lot of people unsatisfied.

Just a bit of tweaking (but hey easier said than done) of the programming and this would be up there along with the other best 'chess but not chess' type games around.

I had fun as there were a few levels I felt I did win, but still because of above was frustrating and I don't play chess.

I do recommend this to very casual non chess players, who want an easy game.

100%
Finish game and capture opponent (any piece) 1000 times. Depending on how quick you were working the entire game out will determine how grindy this ach is. But get a level you can initially take at least a couple of pieces quickly, then immediately hit reset level. Don't need to finish a level for it to count.

Tiny Tales: Hidden Objects

Spot the difference. Each level has 3 different sizes (3x3, 5x5, 7x7,) there are 20 lvls so 60 different scenes to do. Movement was a bit negative although you could rotate with left click I found that didn't work well and needed both mouse and keyboard although a bit cumbersome.
Hints. Couple items I'd never had gotten even when I used a hint to see it.

It's a 'tiny lands' wannabe although there are a couple of other games about (hidden lands). Different items to find for added achievements was a nice touch.

ACHIEVEMENTS
- Could do smallest lvl to get most achs, and only do 1 size of each level (20 lvls)
- Can use hints
- see below for location of each item for achievement

ITEMS
- Level 2, 7x7 - FROG
- Level 6, 7x7 - CACTUS
- Level 7, 3x3 - FOX
- Level 8, 5x5 - RECORDER
- Level 9, 5x5 - CAR
- Level 14, 3x3 - DUCK
- Level 14, 7x7 - BALLOON
- Level 16, 7x7 - EAGLE
- Level 20, 7x7 - WIZARD HAT
