Are you ashamed to be a furry?
Im not :p
Първоначално публикувано от VinchenzoTheJackal & Shoon:
While I'm not ashamed to be a furry, it's not something I can safely talk about outside the furry fandom to most people. Maybe my family psychiatrist, who says its okay. But then there are other psychiatrists, my family, views by the community, specific people in my family, religious people, who claim its immoral, will lead me into a life of drugs, alchohol, sex addiction, bestiality, satanism, etc, people don't get what the furry fandom is and look solely at the bad or worse, they invent insane evil ideas of what the furry fandom is. I still can't stand when I followed through a suicide attempt, damaged my body, was unconscious for days, and went to a mental hospital, all these bad things, were the stuff they thought the furry fandom was about and involved... they literally focused on the furry fandom being a place of drugs, sex, alchohol, and sexual deviancy, and a cult. They literally teach people that, psychiatrists, and therapists, in my country, the USA, and the mental hospital has been obsessed with rehabilitating me from my unholy unhealthy obsession with 'animals'. Society has much to learn and change. People may always hate furries, and may never accept us. It leaves me isolated and scared offline, cause I never go to fur-cons, I have no furry friends I see outside the internet, and only select family members don't condemn me for it and are okay with me being a furry.

I'm not ashamed to be a furry, but I work in a very professional field and can't have other people knowing that I'm a furry.
Not really. I like anthro art, what gives?

What I hate are people who try making me feel bad for liking something that seems weird in their opinion. It happened to me countless times on the internet and a few times in real life, and I hate it.

Depends to which extend you express it.

It's certainly easier to say that you are a trekkie than that you like to wear that uniform and represent your constume whereever you go.
Just a quick analogy.

Don't overinterpret the situation, we are not talking about physical addictions to drugs, it's just a fandom of liking another dimension/depth on fictional character design in narratives after all.

And don't think like "society is opressing you" please... Not this victim narrative bullsht again
Again it depends on the extend you express it.
If you wear some suit all day long, turns out it's not normal to do that, so people start to stare and to wonder, mostly negativly ofc.
It's like wearing a dress as a man, running around in underwear or wearing something that really stands out like some "modern art" model shit that lets one look like a cream cake.
That's no opression, that's just critical analysation of certain situations at hand.

If you even at an extend (and so do I) get into your sexuality with all this stuff, I think one can explain it from a psychoanalytical standpoint.
In young relationships with my family, friends or even girlfriends I always experiences a touch of hypocrisy at everything that made me feel that, even tho religion and human behaviour resulted in some kind of moral guidance one lacks in the animal kingdom, one always lacks something that's at it's core true and one can rely upon.
In my case for example, a relation to a dog or a bird were always more true at its' core because of predictability than to a friend or girlfriend for example, that tended to disappoint me by beeing unreliable, unexpected and somehow lacking in honesty.
I guess since that kept going for over a decade even through my puberty I developed some kind of need in my brain for this animal traits that I equate automaticly with something familiar, true at it's core and trustworthy.
Maybe you got another perspective that you can describe in words for me so I get another lense to look through.

Not even mentioning that this kind of characterdesign shaped alot of people with cartoons, with some kind of predictability that a child instantly understands just through visuality.
A smart fox thief, a king as a lion, elephants and rhinos as guards, a snake as consultant.
It tells so much about their traits and their characters just by looking at them, focussing on what they truly are, so what they are doing and what their intentions are, instead of what they are saying.
