Sorry if what I ask about is silly at this point and sounding like something that could be written a week ago, because I just got into this discussion. But can someone explain why is everybody here so sure that the cult ending is unaccesible because of some bug/missing patch? Did you find it somewhere in the game's code, the fact that this ending cannot be accessed? I mean this discussion developed from being about "how to figure this out" to complaining about developers and I simply wonder what happened.
As for the tip #59 “First is the worst, second is the best, third is the one with the hairiest chest”. I think the "worst" and "best" is not about which dad is worst/best, but about the score we get. Did anyone try to get the worst score in two dates with any dad, then the best score with two dates with any dad, then date Brian and then date Joseph? Or just... finish the whole game at worst score, best score, Brian and then Joseph, but... alright yeah this sounds too complicated and probably not at all what was meant by this tip. Still, this tip DOES sound odd and out of place.
As for this Suicidal Hobo user, is it just me who thinks it's probably one of the producers trying to put players in the right path? I mean I get it, you can cheat getting a screenshot and cheat getting an achievement, but idk why would you?
I might be wrong since I don't even have an info on WHEN did they get the achivement and posted their screenshot and "the clue", but I guess it was quite early right? Wasn't it before people even found dialogue of the scene? (I can't even find their profile at this point, does anyone know where can I find it?)
The code for the ending is in the "level18" file, it did not have a start or end code or a bunch of other needed stuff in it until this latest update.
Suicidal Hobo's tumblr is full of anti-SJW offensive shit so I really don't think it's one of the devs.
this is their steam profile http://steamcommunity.com/id/hobolyra
and their tumblr http://hobolyra.tumblr.com/
they had gotten the achievement and posted all that stuff before this code was added to the file.
Before the update, there was no start or end code in the lvl18 file, rendering the ending impossible to get. With this update, there has been a ton added to the file, making it complete (or seemingly more complete) than it was prior to the update.
The Walk Mary Home glitch is speculated to be the thing preventing us from getting the ending because the argument with Mary in that scene overrides the code of the game. By that I mean, if you trigger the cutscene before dating Joseph and successfully walk her home and then do Joseph's two dates, the cutscene triggers again and you argue with Mary and that seems to override having a positive relationship with her. And if you trigger the argument by going on Joseph's two dates first, the cutscene will not trigger again, even if you go on two dates with every other dad. Therefore, the argument cutscene does seem to be a huge barrier to getting this ending, which also leads us to believe that the devs are keeping the glitch in place so they can fix up the ending and Saul's route (assuming Saul is a secret dad unlocked through the cult ending's completion). Which is a super cheap and disappointing move.
As for Suicidal Hobo, they got the achievement after the datamining had occurred. Back in the other forum that created this group, they appeared about fifteen (?) pages in to give some vague "hints" and then vanish. It's also been proven that screenshots can be doctored and uploaded to steam as well as how easy it is to use software to give yourself achievements. Especially because they got the achievement before the lvl18 code was finished and updated with the patch, it all makes it look more like they used software to get the achievement and decided to fuck with all of us.
New Interview with the devs about Joseph's ending for anyone who hasn't seen it. Nothing about the cult end, but they basically confirm that he never had or will have a good ending. A quote if you don't feel like reading:
"I'm surprised, because I thought the discourse about that path would be like, 'This feels morally dubious and bad,' because you're essentially trying to break up a marriage. I'm surprised that so many people have been like, 'Why can't we be together?'"
and a succinct reaction:

My thoughts exactly. The devs really aren't doing themselves any favors kind of fighting the fanbase like this.
The game was also a bit short, and I'd hoped further content would be patched in over the following months. But, once again, the devs have been completely silent about future plans. The official tumblr and twitter accounts are nothing but fan art and announcing steam sales. I even dug through the dev's personal twitters a bit and didn't see anything of note.
TLDR: seems to me like they saw the negative reactions and just dropped the ending without saying anything to avoid the fuss.
If they have infact removed the cult ending, which it seems like they have, why haven't they got rid of the achievement? I really want to 100% this game and it's really bugging me.
But after this long, I doubt they're going to be doing anything else.
It's been eight months since the release. In July it'll be a solid year. After all this time to think about it, my lingering feelings are a general fondness for the game as it was and disappointment that there was so little content. What was there was good. I just wish they'd pushed back the release further in order to give us more, and to give us a finished product they could stand by proudly instead of ducking hard questions as they have.
In particular, I'm disappointed about Saul. We were promised a secret dad, and from the images of Saul that were datamined he would have been just my type. That no secret dad ever materialized is a big let down.
I'm disappointed in the devs. I'm angry at the tumblr community that lashed out at the game the minute it was released. I expected some backlash from the TERFs and associated unpleasant quarters just because of the game's baked in trans themes. But all of tumblr seemed to jump on bandwagon, delighting in picking the game apart for anything to criticize. We scream and scream for represensation, for content that caters to us, and then as soon as we get it we tear it apart for not meeting an impossible standard. That was unbelievably frustrating to watch.
And I can't stop feeling like the public reaction to it is the reason our questions will never be answered.
Dream Daddy, all else aside, was a good game. It was cute, it made me laugh from one end to the other. It was touching and heartfelt. The art was lovely, the writing was solid, I even enjoyed the silly minigames. It was making an incredibly amount of effort to be as kind and thoughtful in its representation as possible. How Damien was handled in particular and the themes of his story- subtly discussing an aspect of trans life that I've never seen talked about in any kind of media- It was amazing. But the hype wanted it to be revolutionary, and wouldn't accept anything with more humble intentions.
