Russians with a BIG advantage to sell items
I'm sorry for my bad english

Because of the currency, the Russians are having a BIG advantage by selling items at the Market, because, for example, an item that costs $ 1 costs 31 rubles there, but if they sell an item for 30 rubles and an American buy this item for 30, the seller earns $ 1 / 31 rubles. (This happens at least with other countries such as Brazil)

The major problem of all is that beyond them earn some money faster, they are in front of the list, leaving many other sellers from other countries on pages farthest from the list.

Understand, I'm not trying to drive the Russians out of the Market, I'm just asking for Valve adopt a measure that benefits all sellers.

I don't care that location could earn somebody more , the listing(if it works that way) is unfair.
"first come first serve" when selling for the same price is the only fair way.

Yup...they don't have proper currency value for what gets listed. Russians can swoop in at anytime and get to the top of the list because they have much more variable in how they price their things. Like the OP said they can list for 30 Rubles instead of 31 but get paid the same as someone listing for $1. At the same time they end up getting placed higher immediately because technically they are selling for less than we are.

This has lost me a lot of money actually, and continues to lose me money. It makes buying and selling, which makes Valve a ton of money, not worth it for us for high volume items. If I can't sell them I can't buy them because I can't get rid of them again. This makes Valve way more money than random users selling a couple items here and there. They get double dips from us.

Not to mention that this costs Valve money because it drives the market prices down a lot faster too.

PLEASE change this ASAP. This is insanely unfair to users from many countries. In fact I suspect this may be illegal in some form, but at the very least it is insanely unethical and the company should be embarrassed.

Let me put this in perspective a bit more and why it costs Valve money. I ahve made about 800 market trasactions so far. Buying/Selling. Since I get frozen out by these other currencies I am not buying and sellig anymoe because I can't make any sales without taking a loss. Even at the lowest possibel fees, every one of those transactions Valve has made at LEAST 3 cents on. Thats' $24 just from me alone and that is a fraction of what they actually made from me since I was paying much more in fees than 3 cents. It is also a fraction of the amount of transactions I would ahve made if they had the listings set up properly. I'd be well over 2000 already in jsut a couple days if it was done pproperly.

I have no problems creating money from the market for me its just that unfair feeling.

the solution would be having one currency on the market or valve creates there own currency.
get this exchange rate out of the way before an item is listed on the market.

High supply and demand items is where this hurt us though. Other stuff that isn't so bad since the supply isn't so high.

What hurts us so much is that people arbitrage and then since they get preference in listing they list 5+ pages of the items on the market and push us all back 5 pages. The DEMAND isn't high enough to sustain that price long enough for ours to get bought. They literally have free reign to sell at any price they want to and have it sold within minutes,.

We just can't compete in that environment because when they list 5 pages it pushes the price down. People can't sell unless they undercut that preferential price listing for these other currencies. So that leaves us even further back and more time for them to add even more pages above our listings.

I've had items listed at the stable price for THREE DAYS that won't sell because of this. Literally THOUSANDS (This is not an exaggeration. The graphs show this clearly) of items have sold since that time at that price and there has never been more than 10 pages at that price at one time. It is impossible for me to sell at the same price as they do because they can just undercut me by listing at the SAME PRICE, yet they don't have to go to the end of the line. They get top listings immediately.

So I have to sell at the next lowest price just to get any sales. Then if I do that it starts to push the price down because I have a lot of supply too. I have to play a game of not selling a ton at once to make sure the price stays where I can sell fast enough.

If it stabilizes at my new price they can do it all over again and put 3-4 more pages in front of me.

IT's just not fair to us, and the market is losing money because of it. I haven't bought a thing in 3 days now because I can't resell my stuff at a profit with this going on. Valve can't possibly make more money this way. They would make MUCH more money if people like us were buying and selling every day rather than a handful of people getting listing advantages and killing off the market.

Has this been fixed yet? Because I'm noticing something very similar with my items. It makes an unfair market for one currency to be able to sell for less than the smallest unit of another currency, e.g. US market sellers are restricted to $ 0.01 USD as the smallest unit in their currency while Russian market sellers are also restricted to руб 0.01 RUB, however руб 0.01 RUB is equivalent to $ 0.00031 USD if it were ever traded at such a low value.

If any of the information I stated above is true then what can be done about it? Would it be wise to use a universal currency for the Community Market? Perhaps allow for thousandths, ten-thousandths, hundred-thousandths, etc. in local currency? Maybe localize the Community Market into separate sections that trade in their own respective local currency?

Maybe all three of those suggestions? Local markets trade in local currency, the global market trades in a global currency, and the global currency can be traded in the thousandths, ten-thousandths, hundred-thousandths, etc.

Maybe all of that is a bunch of poppycock, although I do wonder what Valve's local economist has to say about it.

Bumping this because it's still an issue and no one from valve has yet to comment on it.

I notice this the other day, it's outrageous. STEAM DO SOMETHING!

ITS NOT FAIR

STEAM FIX IT

I got even worse with this system. Usually the item of someone pass in front of me even if this new item has the same price than mine (in $). This is already not fair. But sometime,an item pass in front of mine and it is MORE expensive than mine (like 0.01$ more epensive)....

Well, it is not just about the Russians and their Currency Ruble. In general, weaker currencies have a big advandage against stronger currencies, in this case. For Example 11,79 to 12,27 Russian Ruble makes rounded 0,25 € ! 0,25 € makes 12,03. So all People who use Russian Ruble are in advantage to all Euro Users, when they price their item between 11,79 and 12,02 Ruble.

Well, i just can support the concern of threat-creator! Please Steam ! Do something to fix the currency/rounding problem on the Steam Market ! That is just unfair.
Gorbovsky Mar 2, 2014 @ 1:04pm
Bump for it.
Russians keep push me down and I still see the same price as mine in euros, even if I was first with my item.
VALVE, do something !

tankz Mar 6, 2014 @ 4:46pm
It does need a fix.

They also need to add buy orders, steam market is out of date auction house, all new mmo's use a buy order, sell order system.
It gets rid of bots and it hassle free for the users and stops items being undercut by 1 cent over and over.

The wallet also needs to be increased from $500, those who have provided information should have a higher limit, it only hurts valve when we can't sell.

Easy Solution: Steam creates their own Currency (example: SteamCredit)
Gorbovsky Mar 9, 2014 @ 12:41pm
Yeah, sounds like easy solution.. but question is, are they going to do ANYTHING ?
