My account was "Hijacked" but there has to be something more to it. Steam won't cancel the transaction.
So after waiting 24 hours for my funds to be released from selling a low tier knife for 205 dollars, I finally got the money. Immediately after, i got an email from steam saying "thanks for your purchase of a Inscribed Rearms Dota 2 card. This normally sells for $0.03, yet it was purchased for 205 dollars from my account.

I have authenticator, steam guard, all the works and it is hooked up to my phone. When I contacted steam they replied with the following message.

"

Hello there,

Account hijackers have several common methods of attack, most of which rely upon misinformation or deception.

With that said, if activity occurred on your account you do not recognize, it may mean your account or computer has been compromised.

Someone may have gained access to your Steam account through spoofing, phishing, or malware.

As an immediate first step, you should take some action to secure your Steam account from further access. Our article on account security recommendations is a good start toward securing your Steam account.

If you suspect your computer is infected with malware, we have some tips for removing malware from your computer here. It may be a good idea to contact a local computer security expert if you're having trouble removing this malware.

Additionally, all Community Market transactions are final and cannot be reversed or refunded. When an item is purchased from the Community Market, the cost is sent from the buyer's Steam wallet to the seller's. Reversing these purchases would mean we have to take funds out of the seller's wallet, creating confusion and possible purchasing issues across Steam.

I understand the eagerness on this matter, however, I'm sorry we can't be of more help with this, but we don't reverse or refund Community Market purchases and sales.

For future reference, confirmation is only required when listing an item on the market. However, items that typically sell for under $1.00 USD will no longer require confirmation when the list price is reasonably within the median price, but confirmation will still be required once many of those cheaper items are listed. Confirmation will still be required on all rare and valuable items.

Ken"

Is it possible that Steam itself is compromised and they have rouge employees? It is only $200 so I am very confused why they would take the risk. But now the worthless card is trade locked for 7 days. What is the point of it being locked if someone can just "hijack" your account and you can't get a refund.

I sold my knife to purchase the new BMX Streets. It essentially seems that they are stealing both from me as well as the developer of BMX Streets.

Same situation here. Got a email thanking me for purchasing 4 Dota 2 items for 40€ (When their value is like 0,15€ total). Steam guard active, no malwares on my PC, nothing suspicious on the device list. Just a transaction I never made for a game I never played.

Talked to support and they basically told me that they can't get the money from someone that is clearly a scammer.

Lost all hope in this platform after years of using and buying games here.

The best part is them making the victim the responsible for their lack of true security.
You can't give me thier money? Pay for your holes on your security.

I just want this to spread so something is changed. Being able to disable the marketplace can be a good start. I don't want it, I don't need it.

Amen i am thinking of taking this to court because this is basically free money that steam is stealing off us consumers and when times get tough steam DOES NOTHING!!!???

They can get hacked and how are we consumers to know they were hacked?? They need to FIX THIS ASAP because now i WILL NOT SPEND ANY MORE MONEY HERE UNTILL THEY FIX THESE ISSUES oh and FIX USELESS STEAM GUARD!!! Get a option to turn off Marketplace buying/selling !!!!

I had the same, they were as helpful as a sack of d*cks. (It was only 7 euro)

Hey This is not about SteamGuard but an overall security problem. Because i think somehow my information got spoofed. For some reason for about 6.75 euro of items(265) from my account got sold in a very shot amount of time without me confirming them on my phone.. and about 8 items (6.75 euro) got bought in the same time. I think this is not an good sign. I have added a document of all transactions. In the meantime i have changed my password and disconnected all my devices. Is it possible that all those transactions are reversed? Because some items in it where for me onetime items like backgrounds or emoticons.

Hey, I do not agree with your decision. First of all i already had security steps in place like 2stap authorization for selling items, what somehow was bypassed. I only discovered the transaction because 4 items gave a popup on my phone who i could decline. The next 250 items did strait go to the store, in staid to my authorization app. So this views like if you spam enough items, the app is skipped, what is so bad in my view. Second, what is even worse is your policy. Your inaction promotes malicious behaviors. But that is because you earn from it, because you earn "tax" from every transaction. For example: the item [Shards of the Malignant Corruption] bought is on the store cheapest 0.03 euro It was bought for 0,64 euro, that is 21 times the market rate. What looks like a target buy. And fraud. Find out who sold that item, (and the other items), probably the same person. Look at his market transactions, for selling (Not only offering) overpriced items (i think he has and pattern) Remove those 8 items from my account and give me back 6.75 euro, and let me buy back the items i "mis" In the meantime, you can keep the "tax" you earned of every transaction. In this way, you double earn of bad apples. And fix the problem with the steam app and too many listed items. So I only ask you to do your job. And at least research the transactions. As i said, above, it looks like fraud.

I understand how eager you're to resolve this issue. But all Community Market transactions are final and cannot be reversed or refunded. Again, I’m sorry to hear that your account was used without your permission. I know it's frustrating to hear that we can't reverse Market activity. To learn how to avoid scams or hijackings, please see our Trade Scam and the previously linked Security Recommendations articles. If this scam was initiated through Steam Chat or Comments, please make sure you've reported any accounts you spoke with as part of the scam. Reporting a scammer through the Steam Community is the best way to prevent them from committing future scams. Since there's not much more that I can say or do to be of help with this particular issue, I am going to close this help request. If you have questions on an unrelated issue, please create a new help request and we will be happy to help you. Steam Support

Somehow, i have the feeling that steam has no wish to fix this, or are not able to fix it.
In the past, i did do some customer support and if a customer had a problem, i would do every thing to get it resolved. I would never give a none answer. Just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ escalate it to the department that can help.

they don't since they get 40% of each "transaction"
CoTangentPI 3 月 15 日 上午 1:14
I am very unfortunate to join the same group. Support is always useless as expected. Steam definitely has no interest to fix this situation. On the contrary steam might even want people to get hacked so they can make more money from the transaction fees. If item is sold for 0.02, steam only earns 0.01 in fees. Where is items is sold for $100, the fees will be at least $5. That a whopping 500% increase.

Just look at the Flame Bat sale history from Dota 2. It is very clear people are getting scammed, and the exact time and amount they got scammed.

What I am more curious about, is what is causing the hijack or hack. I think all of us are smart enough to not click or login to suspicious website. I wish we have a from to collect more information regarding to actions before we get hacked so we can prevent the next attack ourself. (Steam is useless as we already found out the hard way).

For my case. I had a fresh reinstalled windows 11 (literally less than one month old system). There are very limited programs installed: discord CS2 League and Steam. Beside schoolwork and email. I only visited CSfloat, CSROI and BUFF163. There are only a few variables in play, but I still can’t pin point what went wrong.

So I've been dealing with a death in the family and haven't been on much. Then a couple days ago noticed there was a few $s in my steam wallet, which there shouldn't have been. So someone accessed my account, added $50 to my wallet 4 different times and then bought Dota2 items, 1 was for like $145. I didn't even know the community market was a thing until this happened. So I'm pretty sure they used the funds from my wallet to purchase the items they put up for sale for way higher than they're worth. Meaning steam could see who's actually doing it, but they won't. I contacted support and got the same response as everyone else, that market purchases are irreversible and that it's my fault that someone accessed my account, even though I have steam guard set up, plus have my own security on my pc, even did a scan and no malware detected. Look, if it was just a couple $s missing, I could probably deal with that. But it was $200, that's too much to let someone get away with. So I went to my bank yesterday and filed fraud claims, even showed the bank person the response I got from steam support. Got a new card to and won't be saving it on steam. Figured for future purchases, I'll more than likely just buy a steam gift card off Amazon or something and use that to buy my games. Still gotta call the bank today, since 1 of the charges was still pending and they couldn't file on it till it cleared, which it did last night. So just be careful people and if this happens to you, just contact your bank, since steam support won't do anything to help.

Wild ... I was through the same thing... only "cost" me 1€ but it is stupid system, where they do not react to security infringements. I've lost trust in the platform, and will buy my future games on different systems.

my passwords are being reset faster then I can re enable 2factor + authenticator on all of my accounts ive been fighting them all night... some one help me before they win please
mR.HuMbLE.GuY 3 月 19 日 下午 1:57
Steam really aren't allowed to communicate and use automated msgs because they are running a billion$ open market and anything said could be used as an advantage to predict the market(insider trading is illegal everywhere)
WailemSO 3 月 19 日 下午 2:26
Just adding to the I was hacked and steam did nothing group. I got like 28 messages about I sold something on marketplace in my email. Turns out some dirtbag got into my account and sold off tons of my trading cards for 2 cents each and ended with buying a DOTA item to clear my whole 60 cent money credit I had. Then support gives me the whole all transactions are final nonsense and can't reimburse < 2 dollars worth of digital trading cards. I tried asking about investigating the buyer accounts which are obviously linked to the hacker but they just ignored me and closed my ticket. :(
