Paypal / Market Ban

Dear Steam community users,

I've recently purchased 35 euros in steam funds with a "new" method of payment for me, Paypal. So I was aware that i was, most likely, get a steam temporary market ban (7days) as I read on the FAQ of steam market but I was surprised that a message pop'd up on the steam market saying: "You aren't allow to buy or sell anything on the steam market at least for a few days as you've used a new payment option and we have to verify it" I don't understand this because the funds have already been credited to my account and verified on my Paypal account so this seems a bit contradictory... And then when I check'd to see how many days I was banned it said: " You are banned for trading in the steam market until the 29/09...." so I'm a bit pissed off, i've messaged steam support and been answered with an answer that doesn't help a lot.. and well i would like to know your opinion guys..

Steam needs to check that the purchase of Steam funds was through legitimate means, so it takes a couple of days to check everything is ok for you to proceed with using this new method of payment in the future. If they immediately allowed someone to use a payment method without a verification check, then people would use stolen credit cards and other malicious means to pay for their video games, more so than now. Steam is allowing you the purchase of the funds, but it is essentially in limbo until the verification period is over in the event that the funds must be reimbursed.

wow, and then why I'm banned until the 29th of September? Will it be removed? Because of what I've read it says that bans can't be lifted ..

The ban will stay in effect until it's over. Varying elements in payment methods produce varying ban lengths. At least now if you know anyone moving to a payment method similar to yours, you have the opportunity to let them know about the ban period.

Same thing happened to me this morning. Frustrating as I've been using the same Paypal account with Steam since at least 2009. Loaded some cash to buy TF2 items as started to get interested in TF2 but now have lost all interest.

How can you check how long the duration of the ban is?

well I went to the Market and tried to buy a CSGO weapon skin and it showed me until when i was banned -.- I was awared it was most likely around 7 days but 1 month? what the hell , really pissing me off. Steam and their bullsh***!

Thanks, hadn't noticed it shows the expiry date when you hover over the buy button. 7 days for me which sucks as I've just checked and I've purchased almost 800 games the majority with this paypal account.

Thanks, hadn't noticed it shows the expiry date when you hover over the buy button. 7 days for me which sucks as I've just checked and I've purchased almost 800 games the majority with this paypal account.

That sucks. I have to admit after 9 years with Steam I'm disappointed the FAQ for the community marketplace is so unclear. Will I get hit with another week long ban if I load my wallet via paypal again? Who knows.

It's very disappointing that at no point during the loading process this was mentioned. If I had known, I would have used a card and did the verification but now I am stuck for a week.

I would say you are somewaht "lucky" ^^, i'm stuck for a month... They should consider removing this ban's like what they did to the credit card...

for the first time buying steamfunds you get a 14 days ban i think. :P

Got myself locked out from the market 2 days from the end of the sale by adding a petty amount of money from Paypal.
I really wish there was either a way to verify a paypal account just like with a card, or if at least there was a warning about that 7 days lockout when one selects the paypal payment method.

for anyone stumbling into this NOW, you get a 7 day community market ban for the first time you add funds with PayPal, this is to insure that you didn't use a stolen account or something like that. However, after this 7 day ban, you can add funds freely BUT, if the account is stolen, you can still get pursued for it. hope this helps
