Go to the ToonHUD website (toonhud.com) and follow their instructions to make a theme, or just take Ace's theme (BLU Prime)
Then, copy it to your own ToonHUD profile if you took Ace's theme (you'll have to log into ToonHUD w/ your Steam account) so you can edit it.
While editing, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see this: https://imgur.com/a/HyxDXbu
Make each crosshair a different color, and preferably, choose the ones that I did, so it's a bit easier.
Here's each one I picked - you may have to scroll to see them in the list.
Blue: https://imgur.com/a/oBsApYK
Green: https://imgur.com/a/EcotnDd
Red: https://imgur.com/a/6JAAfiE
Save the theme and then download it.
Then, go to the file path toonhud\materials\vgui\replay\thumbnails\xhairs within the downloaded folder.
If you used the exact same crosshairs as I did, the files you're looking for are titled:
xhair31.vtf for the Blue crosshair
xhair5.vtf for the Green crosshair
xhair9.vtf for the Red crosshair
This next step is the most important step.
If you want Ace's crosshair, you can get my more advanced recreation's vtf files here: {Ο ΣΥΝΔΕΣΜΟΣ ΑΦΑΙΡΕΘΗΚΕ}http://www.mediafire.com/file/hlr27dummlcky9s/Crosshair.zip/file
If you're using your own custom crosshair, ignore that link.
If you already have your custom crosshair in vtf format, ignore this step.
If you don't have it in VTF format, download VTFedit and import your custom crosshair that should be in image form into the program and export it as a .vtf file.
Now, you're ready to begin. If you downloaded the crosshair from my link, toss the files that are in the downloaded zip file into the aforementioned xhairs file path and say yes to the "Replace these Files?" message that comes up.
If you did not download that crosshair, you need to be a bit more careful. Take the three pieces of your crosshair and rename them to the correct file names which are the xhairY.vtf (where Y is the number associated with the color) which are up above. Then, drop them into the file path.
Reply back if you have any more questions :)
Edit: It appears my download link was removed by Valve. Oof. I'll try to figure something out.
If you want to make your own:
download GIMP and go File -> New
Set both width and height to 64x64, since that's the size that most TF2 crosshairs are made at.
Go to Advanced Options without pressing the Ok button, since that will create an image without transparency, resulting in a colored box that you can't see through with your crosshair drawn on top of it.
Instead, once you click on Advanced Options, click on the Fill With dropdown box, and set it to Transparency, like this: https://imgur.com/a/zHAP1se. Then, click okay and just experiment with drawing your crosshair.
If you want to make them multicolored like the ToonHUD crosshairs, make sure to make the crosshair white so that it can change the crosshair to any color you set it to..
A good way to make a crosshair that is multicolored, but flashes the same color as a hitmarker, similar to Ace's is to create the whole crosshair first, save that, then erase part of it and save that separately, then erase the other part and save that separately as well. What you just did is created 3 separate image files - in the case of Ace's crosshair, the first one will be the red hitmarker, and the other 2 will be the multicolored parts, if that makes any sense. View the imgur files below to get a better sense of what I mean if that doesn't make sense to you.
Also - instead of a mediafire download, just download these Imgur posts if you want Ace's crosshair.
Hitmarker (replace xhair9.vtf with a vtf version of this) https://imgur.com/a/Qgbh0Qd
Blue 'Wings' (replace xhair31.vtf with a vtf version of this) https://imgur.com/a/6d3iTId
Green center (replace xhair5.vtf with a vtf version of this) https://imgur.com/a/qbtmdA4
Does this work?
You'll need to erase the inside crosshair to create the outside box since I had to scale it up to make the crosshair fit inside the box.
For future reference, you can use the Export as PNG in VTFEdit to turn the crosshairs from .vtf to .png, then you can use Open as Layer in GIMP to layer several images.
I think mine is the max of 32(?). It really doesn't matter, it's all trial and error until you get something that works.
I'll consider it since it's a fairly complicated topic and just explaining it is difficult in of itself.
