War Thunder
I'm sorry Gaijin, but I have to do this.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/236390/War_Thunder/
The AH-1S Kisarazu[wiki.warthunder.com], a premium Japanese helicopter, is piloted by a female flight crew.

No, that's the type of helicopter that they're piloting.

Thanks! I'll add this game as informational.
I should ad that the game as "Israel" as a playable faction
Marking WT as informational was a mistake.

War thunder wiki explains "The AH-1S Kisarazu is the first vehicle in the game to feature a female flight crew. Both females have a unique model and are part of the 4th ATH and one of which is cosplaying as one of the sisters, Kisarazu Wakana"

The in game models, both of which are girls, are modeled off the actual flight crew from the JDF's 4th ATH.
:lunar2019laughingpig: ROFL War Thunder doesn't have pro-DEI messaging, this is just Gaijin putting poster girls who are actually part of the squadron in as pilots to sell this Premium vehicle. It is a singular case from a game with literally hundreds of vehicles. What next? Are you going to call pinups as DEI?

Women only account for ~6% of JSDF personnel:
https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2017/04/87299e3828ed-japan-opens-up-combat-positions-to-women-eyes-more-women-in-sdf.html

This is an example of minority pandering.

The JSDF is in the process of trying to increase the number of female personnel:
https://spfusa.org/publications/women-peace-and-security-an-opportunity-to-further-the-u-s-japan-security-alliance/
Given the overall population decline in Japan, the JSDF is prioritizing women’s participation as a critical readiness issue for the future force. They hope to increase the number of women personnel to 12% or more by 2030, expand recruitment efforts so that 17% of total recruits are women, and promote women to make up 5% or more of field officer positions by FY2025. This was explained further as a multifaceted approach to creating an environment that helps women be more comfortable staying in the military.

As reported by Kyodo News:
https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2018/10/7eca2543f9e6-feature-women-taking-on-more-frontline-roles-in-japans-self-defense-forces.html
The ASDF lifted the gender restriction on women operating fighter jets as well as reconnaissance aircraft in November 2015. Until then, Japan's Defense Ministry had considered the conditions too severe for women because of the extreme g-forces involved in flying fighter jets, which at times make it difficult for pilots to even breathe.

While the recent trend of promoting women to the frontlines in fields of national defense reflects the government's "female empowerment policy," the ministry is also trying to utilize more female members to ease a human resources shortage.

As of the end of March, the number of working SDFs members stood at 226,789 out of the full quota of 247,154, a 91.8 percent sufficiency rate. The number of women was 14,686, accounting for only 6.5 percent of the all [sic] members, although the ministry says it aims to have more than 9 percent women by 2030.

To secure enough personnel, a high-ranking ministry official said it is "urgently necessary" to appoint more women to a wider range of jobs including high-ranking posts, with the ministry considering measures such as raising the upper limit on the job seeker's age and the retirement age.

To create a more women-friendly work environment, the ministry set up day-care centers for children inside some garrisons and bases, and revised its system so that it can re-employ former female workers who have left to raise children. Four women have been rehired from January through September, based on the amended system.

"When we have to dispatch our personnel for natural disaster rescue operations or international missions, female members are in demand because they are usually easier to talk with. We want to aim to be an organization with diversity," said another top-ranking official.

Is the discussion on War Thunder or the JSDF being woke?

I brought up the fact Gaijin, the company behind WT, put in the helicopters as they are IRL, since Gaijin tries to make all vehicles accurate to their real life counterparts, to varying degrees of success, but that's a different discussion entirely. You respond with the fact that the JSDF, not the game in discussion, is enacting DEI policies.

Do you think they added the helicopter to the game because it has women as crew or because there's an anime girl on the side of it?

On the contrary, the original point is that the game is featuring a version of this helicopter with an all-female flight crew.

The information about the JSDF is added context to help reinforce the fact that female participation in the JSDF is statistically low. Thus, the inclusion of this helicopter with an all-female flight crew is an example of a game studio engaging in minority pandering.

This coinciding with a push for "female-empowerment" and "diversity" in the JSDF makes this even more indicative of feminist (DEI) messaging.

Without hearing from the developers themselves, there's no way of knowing for certain why they included this in their game.

The important thing to remember is that they chose to include this in their game. Just because something exists in real-life doesn't mean you have to include it in your game.

That is especially true for things that exist in the real-world as extreme minorities, like female members of the JSDF.

The portrayal of minorities and "under-represented groups" in media is a primary objective of DEI.

And the mindset behind that is that "we have to elevate marginalized voices etc".

iow Equity, justified from an imaginary oppression pyramid with whites as the bad guy. Like the woke Dead By Daylight dev.

That is nice work. Very in-depth research and sound reasoning, incredibly refreshing in this post-logical world.

Gotta say, I always cringe when someone replaces "female" with "women", making a grammatical error to avoid "dehumanizing" language.

this is embarassing dude yikes
I will add that the female pilots are based on 2 female crew members. However, both of them are are part of the ground crew. (ie. they are tasked with doing maintenance of the helicopter, not flying it.)
