Methodology
Basic Terminology:
“Woke” content = any images, messages, characters, storytelling, dialogue, music, or game mechanics that include themes associated with the left-side of the political aisle in contemporary western politics.

These themes include things like:
pro-LGBTQ+ messaging
pro-DEI messaging
pro-climate action messaging
pro-communism/socialism messaging
pro-abortion messaging
pro-pedophilia messaging
pro-immigration messaging
pro-transhumanism messaging
anti-western society messaging
anti-human messaging
anti-colonialism messaging
anti-capitalism messaging
anti-heterosexual messaging
anti-patriarchy messaging
anti-white messaging
anti-family messaging
anti-free speech messaging
anti-gun messaging
etc.

If you disagree with our definition of Woke content, or you disagree with our association of that term with one of the above-listed themes, feel free to join and let us know.

For the sake of brevity, "messaging" is used in our curated reviews as a catch-all term for the presence of any of the above-listed content.

Review Types:
“Recommended” = No Woke themes present
“Informational” = Woke themes present with subtle/no specific messaging
“Not Recommended” = Woke themes present with overt messaging

Some clarifying points:

1. Different games all having the "not recommended" rating does not mean they are all equal. What it means is the messaging contained within them is all considered "overt." In other words, those games have messaging that has crossed the threshold from "subtle" into "overt."

2. We're not trying to make a list of perfectly categorized games. The categories are there to help give you an impression of the degree of political messaging. The most important part of the review is the explanation, as well as any potential Game Discussion that may exist for that particular game. The entire point of having the Game Discussions is for people to debate and discuss the finer points, as well as share their personal experiences with the game.

If you disagree with any of our game reviews or would like more information on a specific game, feel free to join our group and make a discussion post or join in conversation that already exists for a particular game. Make sure to check the discussion posts to see if a conversation already exists for your game of interest.

In Regard to Older Games:
As far as older games are concerned: you might be thinking, how can a game made before 2012 even be Woke? Well, quite frankly, you may be right in thinking the use of the term Woke to refer to a game published when that term didn't exist is anachronistic. However, even if the term Woke didn't exist back then, the themes now associated with that term still did. Therefore, we feel it is still valuable pointing out the existence of these themes in older games for people looking to play them for the first time. Just in case people want to avoid such themes in their entirety.

In Regard to "Good" vs "Bad" Games:
Whether a game is “good” or “bad” is an assessment people can make for themselves. Our only concern is whether or not a game has Woke content and if so, to what degree.

How to Suggest Games for Our List:
If you wish to add a game to the curated list, please start a new discussion thread in the "Game Discussions" sub-forum. If you want to see whether a game is already on the list, please check the Full List of Games.

All of us would like to see more games added to the curated list. However, the list won't grow unless people like you make suggestions. Whether you are suggesting a game that contains some form of Woke content or one that does not contain any, your discussion post should be well-reasoned and substantiated. While not strictly necessary, the inclusion of supporting screenshot/video evidence is preferred.

For any posts made in this group, don't be surprised if you do not get immediate feedback. I (› Furin) read everything. It just takes me a while to work my way through everything. Please be patient.

In Regard to Game Eligibility:
Any game listed on the steam store is eligible to be on this list. Our primary focus is Steam games, but, we also add non-Steam games to the Google Sheet when they are suggested. Therefore, any game for which you have experience playing or knowledge about its content is something you should consider adding to our list.

We seek to provide other players insight into the games that don't have Woke content just as much as those that do. Even if you only provide one new game on the list, your knowledge can provide much needed insight for many other players.

Thank you for your contributions!

Disclaimer:
Our list is not perfect. Please think of it as a work in progress. No reviews are final, and the list should never be considered infallible. Our reviews are not meant to supplant your own judgement nor make a decision for you. As with all sources of information, you are expected to do your own due diligence and come to your own conclusions. It is recommended you use our reviews as an overview or “starting point” for your own research.

Hey I think you should maybe add "antifa-content" and "overt anti-war messaging" to the methodology.

How is being anti-war woke? To be anti-woke do you have to think war is mega poggers or somthing?

Why is "climate action" woke? God wants us to take care of what he created. Look up Stewardship in the bible.

you're missing the point + that is just trying to use the bible for personal policy(tipical protestant)
I was surprised to see COD series listed here - I can't recall much wokeness during the campaign mode? Keep up the great work !

Saludos.

METODOLOGÍA
============

thank goodness that we have forums like these to protect us from the w*ke virus. this has been a great resource for keeping normal men like me away from forced diversity, w*man, and g*ay!!!

I went through the games list and I noticed some games would be flagged as "informational" for having gay characters or a gay romance option but others flagged as "not recommended" just for having body type instead of gender. That seems inconsistent to me. Shouldn't they both be flagged the same, regardless of which you decide to use?

They were both originally considered "subtle." However, after having a debate about "body type" over on RPGHQ, I decided to reclassify it as "overt."

Here's a good quote from that debate:

Gender is newspeak nonsense, and 'body type' is part of this, maybe it's not the spearhead, but it's certainly part of it. Same garbage terms like 'CIS', and of course, in the case of BG3, letting female models have penises, and male models have vaginas. It is very clearly part of the woke movement, and anyone who thinks otherwise is completely out of touch with reality.

It might 'seem' more subtle, but anything with a 'body type' option, as opposed to simply Male or Female, is blatantly woke - and should be regarded as such. This is not something like occasional homosexuality in a game, or other deviancy, or perhaps [POC] where they shouldn't be, etc. This is a flagrant, and obvious expression of their attempt to steal and contrive language - it should be marked as such at all times.

You are right, it is not subtle AT ALL...
Modifying the language is the most brutal instrument at your disposal when you are changing regime after a revolution. It is the ultimate demonstration of your regime's power and the most powerful instrument of propaganda. You are entering in the most intimate sphere of your subjects’ lives and, by changing the way they talk, you are changing the way they think.
There are many famous examples in modern history. During the french revolution they tried to implement the French Republican calendar. During the Russian Revolution titles were abolished (prince, sire, mister, most esteemed...). Everyone was called товарищ (comrade). During the fascist regime in 1938 they changed the way to address a respected person. Instead of using lei (pronoun 3. sg.) you had to use voi (pronoun 2. pl.). This because the use of lei was considered a foreign language influx. Lei was also considered bourgeois.
We should open an entire thread about propaganda in all its forms. The “woke” propaganda is simply the one related to the movement described by Dennis Dworkin in his infamous book “Cultural Marxism in Postwar Britain: History, the New Left, and the Origins of Cultural Studies”.
What if a game includes no woke content, but still promotes pride or blm on their store page?
astro Nov 1 @ 11:01am
so ya'll see non-white characters, gay characters, or women in a game and call it woke? Makes no sense.
Custos Nov 4 @ 4:55pm
from what i have seen, with race it is if it would not make sense in the context, same with women, and pro-lgbt messaging is a huge part of the woke movement, so from what i see, it is more about sacrificing logic or gameplay to pander to a specific group. i am not active in this community yet, so these are just my observations, if i am wrong in this, please feel free to correct me.
What is the policy / methodology regarding woke-coded visuals?
There are a lot of games that have hodge-podge sickeningly vibrant color palettes or things like haircuts on characters that you'd only see liberals wearing in real life - and then if you research the developers of such games, you can quite obviously tell they're liberals, with lots of hair dyes and women on the dev team. And then of course, liberals are practically synonymous with woke nowadays.

These games don't necessarily demonstrate the woke criteria listed here but may easily hide some woke things in places not obvious and are generally tailored for woke audences, plus your money goes towards financing woke people.

It depends on the context. From what I've seen, things like fashion and hairstyles are almost always the tip of the iceberg.

It's useful information to mention in a Game Discussion but I don't think I've yet rated a game not recommended on those things alone. As I said, there's usually a whole lot more than that.

One example I remember is Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. That game is currently listed as not recommended with a review mentioning the contemporary (leftist) fashion designs. However, the fashion choices are minor compared to the race-swapping/out-of-place diversity.

If hairstyles/fashion were the only Woke things in a game, it'd probably be rated as informational since those are rather minor things in and of themselves. But again, every game is reviewed on a case-by-case basis so it's hard to say for certain.
