Games stutter in Windowed Borderless with Dual Monitor Set-Up.
High guys, my games stutter in Windowed Borderless Mode when I have my CPU Dual Monitor Graphics plugged in. I have no framerate drops at all, it's just a random very noticeable micro stutter that kicks in which really ruins the experience.

I don't actually always use a second screen but I run my secondary CPU graphics into my surround sound reciever to get my sound so just unplugging it isn't really an option. :( If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Thnaks in advance!

Asus Z97-A
i7-4790K
GTX 970
8GB RAM
Windows 8.1

which game?

Hey, it happens in any games in Borderless Windowed Mode, as soon as I disable 'Extend these Desktops' in Windows it fixes it, but then I don't get CPU Graphics...Any ideas?
Are you running Windows 8?

Seems most people who have this are running Win8, will have to pinpoint the issue here, think the issue might be with the Nvidea drivers, so far it; s mostly people with a GTX on Win8.

Ahhh, yep that's me :(
Are you running a web browser on your other monitor while you're gaming? From what I've seen, if there is ANYTHING Flash-based in a browser window then I will get the exact same kind of stutter that you are describing. Be it a tiny Flash ad or a video player, every time it will introduce a small repeating stutter that looks like a frame rate drop but it actually isn't.

Closing or minimising the window, or even just opening a new blank tab completely fixes the stutter in my experience.

I got this problem too now after using my backup (6 months ago) but after that I'm using windows 8.1 pro (fully updated) and it works perfectly even on extended display.. Even I used the my former gpu drivers it's the same. My former windows 8 backup had 1.5gb of updates (downloaded and install). Can't figure it how I managed to have no problem using this software on my former setup with windows 8.1. I really wish I backup my former OS didn't know this kind of bug xD

another info: There's no problem too when changing GPU driver on my former setup (always working on extended display).. it seems it's really windows 8.1 problem.. now all my games are stuttering.. only working on disabled display or fullscreen the game :(

@TS
We have the same specs.. only difference I have 16gb ram.

@Stuttering Test
I'm playing Dragon Ball Xenoverse and I'm using bandicam/dxtory for fps monitoring.. the stutter fps on mine is 80-120 fps.. on full screen it is solid 150 fps (using 144hz monitor).. same with dota 2.. 120 fps solid and in stuttering 54fps.. the main thing though is if you alt tab with borderless windows setup the maximum fps of the game is there and when you go back again it starts dropping the fps again.. maximum fps when not focused on the game xD

GPU-z also dropping gpu usage when in game and rising when alt tab. I hope this info can help

Thanks wajinshu for posting your results.
If i understand correctly, the diffrence is in a Win8 update(s) right?
It's deffinately a Win8 issue.
Am i correct assuming this is also an issue with games that have borderless mode natively? so without using the program.

This is my update. I reformatted my computer just now and I installed a windows 8 ISO with updates up to May 2015 unlike updating through windows update via OS and window borderless gaming is working 100%

Yeah even the borderless mode natively have the same problem too so it's definitely a windows 8 issue by updates using windows update.. so the main fix is use a ISO with latest updates which is too bad.... reformatting. I just backup my common folder so I can test the game. This Windows 8 updates lol xD

UPDATE:
after install reinstall I know now the cause of stuttering.. it's tiles software by stardock (massive stuttering)... which is working too in my last setup and the second one (minimal stutter- about 10-20 fps drop) is Display fusion steam version.. uninstall all of them and solid fps using the borderless gaming software. Really need those application but it seems they are the one causing the stutters.. so I take back my statement about Windows 8.1 update.. no problemo until I install those softwares

I have almost the exact same specs as sammykneen - Z97-C, i7 4790K stock, Strix GTX 970 (factory overclocked), 16GB RAM @ 2400MHz - although I have Win7 64 bit; and I'm receiving the exact same issue with pulsing/stutter despite having 60fps. It only happens in Borderless Windowed mode, specifically for GTA V and recently Dota 2. Fullscreen wipes the issue completely. Currently using 350.12 nvidia drivers because the latest ones crashed immediately after I installed it...
oke I finally able to find fixed on this problem.. I just plug my 2nd monitor to IGPU and the stutter gone even on extended desktop settings.. So all in all this is Nvidia problem tsk tsk... not OS or other factors

Just configure dual monitor on Z97-A UEFI bios to use IGPU with your discrete GPU
