WK Universal Unofficial Patch
Hey everybody,

Previously I made a patch for the first Warrior Kings.

Now I made a patch for both WK (v1.4) and WK-Battles (v1.23). That's why I call it "Universal Unofficial Patch".

This patch tries to fix bugs like unit warping and ignored sight range events in the first WK.

The patch also allows easier modding by enabling the data directory, patch BCPs (for the first WK), and by allowing you to add new campaigns and new maps in the lists of the game. In Battles the map editor is also enabled and certain (not all) bugs fixed.

The patch is only a d3d8.dll file that you simply copy in the WK's or WKB's directory and the patch will work if you have the supported version.

There's a map (Dioxygen) included with this patch to show what you can do with the patch in modding.

That is cool, will try it out as soon as possible :). Always hated the unit warping -.- but now its hopefully gone :steamhappy:

Sadly I can't use this patch, I get the error when starting game: Warrior Kings Battles has stopped working. I have vanilla game, V1.23 Build 152 and Windows 7. Any ideas?
are you using for warrior kings or warrior kings battles?

If you are trying my patch on a CD version, then it is possible that it won't work, because the executable from the CD contains DRM/copy-protection, and I only tested the patch with DRM-free executables.

You can easily find a DRM-free executable by just searching "Warrior Kings Battles v1.23 patch", and go to Phoenix's warriorkingsevents website.

This shouldn't be really illegal because the game is now sold DRM-free on Steam and Gog. Plus with the DRM-free executable you don't need the CD to play the game.

If the game with my patch still crashes, can you send me the crash details (by clicking More details in the crash window, if it exists)?

Everything worked fine now, installed the patch and put the .dll into the folder!

When I try and start battles I get the error: You are using WK - Battles Build 141. Which means I need build 152. Where can I get that from? Also the game doesnt start after pressing OK.

That patch doesn't do anything to my game. I opened up the game via the fix and try to open up the map editor: editor decal group error - failed to open file

This is because the in-game map editor requires certain texture files that are absent in Battles but for some reasons are available in the first Warrior Kings. So you can extract the "editor" directory from WK and copy them to the "saved" directory of WKB. Note that you can also use the editor without the textures by just ignoring the errors.
Also I won't recommend the map editor included in WKB because it is unfinished and buggy.
It was left by the developers because they planned to release it in a later patch, but you know what happened to them afterwards.
I recommend that you just use my engine recreation/editor wkbre (https://github.com/AdrienTD/wkbre) as I recently made a map editor inside.
I might also disable the Map Editor Button in WKB's main menu in a future version of the patch.

Maybe I am being stupid, but is there away to use the patch and not have it overwrite the Graphical Glitch Fix that fixes all the triangles and things on the main menu? The are both named the same.

Rename the d3d8 to d3d9 converter DLL that fixes the graphical glitch to apd3d8.dll and leave the unofficial patch DLL to d3d8.dll.

My unofficial patch will load the apd3d8.dll and redirect Direct3D 8 functions to this dll if it finds it, otherwise it will redirect to the d3d8.dll from the system32 folder instead.
