Hey everyone,

Valve recently introduced a new safety system called Trade Protection, which is now live in CS2. This system allows players to reverse a trade within 7 days — a move designed to prevent scams and accidental trades.

🔒 What it means:

Any item received through trade is locked for 7 days and can’t be traded again during that period.

Within those 7 days, you can undo the trade completely.

If you reverse a trade, Valve may place a 30-day trade and market restriction on your account to prevent abuse.

🧩 What’s next?
Valve has confirmed that Rust will be the next game to receive Trade Protection. That strongly suggests this system is here to stay — and will likely expand to other games using the Steam Inventory.

🧠 Bottom line:
Trade Protection isn’t just a test. It’s part of Valve’s long-term plan to increase account security. If you're involved in item trading or P2P sales, be prepared to adapt.

What Is Trade Protection and How Does It Really Work? Personal Experience & Thoughts on the Future of Trading

Recently, Valve introduced a system called Trade Protection — a security feature designed to prevent unauthorized trades and scams. In theory, it’s a great step forward: trade delays, confirmation steps, and overall better protection for users’ inventories. However, in practice, it raises many questions.

I decided to test how this system works myself. I sent a skin worth literally one cent from one of my accounts to another. Shortly after, I canceled the trade — just to see what would happen and how the feature reacts. The result? A 30-day trade ban. No warning, no way to explain the situation.

This makes it unclear how everyday traders are supposed to operate. What happens if someone cancels a trade by mistake, or changes their mind within minutes? The system is strict and allows no room for error — even for harmless or personal test trades.

🔍 Suggestions for improving the system:

Allow users to manually disable Trade Protection, with a mandatory waiting period of 7–15 days, similar to how Steam Guard changes are handled. This balances security and flexibility.

Introduce the ability to choose which items are affected by Trade Protection — for example, allow cheap skins to bypass the system while keeping valuable ones protected.

Differentiate rules for regular users and active traders. This could encourage more trading activity, support the economy, and still maintain strong security standards.

💬 It would be great to get an official explanation or comment from Valve regarding how Trade Protection works and how it's intended to be used. We're not against protection — we simply want clarity and fair rules.
