Project Zomboid Server PVE 1: Rules and Etiquette?

The server doesn't allow mods, if you have them enabled it will not let you join. :)

The rules are mostly common sense, you will see them in a window when you join the server for the first time.

Some thoughts of mine relating the hardmode server

The reason people don't like the mods is; i promised i would never add mods on the server and i think some people are now worried we will add more mods to the point where it's not vanilla anymore. When i say "we'll not be adding game changing mods" i can understand why people may not trust that now. I know there was allot of "WTF the server has mods now?!?!" but as far as i can see everyones accepted what's been added now and hopefully understand it's for the better. Salvage for example helps the server performance, GPS for example helps me catch people much faster/easier in the logs when greifing. There is no plans to add anymore mods right now, We maybe creating one to allow grass to be planted on dirt tiles but that's about it. I beleive it's up to the devs to add weapons/tools and all that stuff, i'm still against mods and rather have what we have built into the game, i don't see why it shouldnt be. But yeah this is why people on the server are against them, some have played for years here without them and afraid the server will change.

For me, my biggest fear is having mods break after an update and causing major issues. This is why we only have minor changes, i've taken what we have under heavy consideration.

OK this is abit big, but I'll do my best but I will be brief because it's quite long.

Microwaves, yes I'm very aware of this issue I have been complaining in the dev disord about it and posting screenshot. What we need is more people to do the same. Just a side note, we did report roadblocks before, they got fixed then people found another trick. Microwaves. This is not something I will set a rule on. It's something the devs need to fix it's not right for me to enforce and waste time policing people with issues in an early access game. It needs to be seen and made of aware of so it's reported. Final thoughts, I myself don't do this and nobody has to, if you don't like it, simply don't do it. Just because bob down the street does, doesn't mean you have to and with it being PvE it shouldn't affect you enough to be rude to bob about it. I personally don't agree with the arguement about logging off and coming back to a broken base, these people live in areas that shouldnt be safe, i live out in the wild and i've been safe for 2 months with just a log wall.

Mods, I don't want to use mods but there is some issues in the game that the mods we're using address, such as farming, I've tried tweaking it so it's better for players that don't want to have to stress about their crops in a game to the point it affect their real life. Finding fresh milk/butter when we have food set low to enforce people to grow/farm/forage their own food is another issue because there is no animals in the game yet. Salvage is another, dev are going to allow this but it's not in the game yet. We're using a mod to have a feature that'll be in the game at a later date. Opening can food with the knife is something that I don't see unreasonable. But that's about all the changes. No our server will not be getting custom weapons and such unless it absolutely makes sense, but right now in the current patch I don't see why we would. Final note, the mods we have now do not affect the vanilla experience in my opinion they are just some settings I wish I could set or feature that will be in the vanilla game in the future.

"No infection? No pvp? GPS? ... How is this hardcore?",
This^ I hear it allot. The server is not hardcore it is "hardmode" which means the zombie spawns/difficulty is set to the hardest setting, not normal or easy, Hard so this is why it's "hardmode". Hardcore in most RPG and alike is when your character dies it dies forever and this is already the case in Project zomboid. Infection is not on because as a server admin I get a lot of abuse when someone dies, whether its from lag, usually on their end or the java client being java and having a memory shit or w/e java likes to do. This is why infection is not on because I don't wanna be the guy hosting a server when someone loses months old character to a lag spike. Adding a random element to a hit does not make the game harder, it just sucks if your dead after weeks of playing due to a random percentage < now repeat that 5 times in your head and think about how that's going to be fun vs maybe being alive due to your expert medicial skills.
Hardmode requires you to play allot differently from any normal server. you need to be aware of your noise for example. There is a learning curve, once you're a master it can seem easier and only the spawns and not being caught out/trapped can be your only fear. I'm going to go ahead and blame this on the devs as well, because you can run through zombies without any fear, i can't fix that and slapping a random percentage of guaranteed death through infection will not fix that.
GPS: Apart from this being a way noobs can find their friends easy. It's a very very good tool for reporting bad players. When someone screenshots for example I can see where it was and I can check the logs at those cords. So you can also see this as a tool for that. It is no different to when you minimize and look up a map for PZ to find your location and I'm sure everyone does once in a while and even without GPS you can just look in your world folder to see the cords of the recent map file names, if you really wanted to find out.
PVP: reason I don't run this, again I don't wanna be the guy hosting when someone's killed on sight and loses their months old character.
Lootrespawn, very hard to get this right, sometimes the server has 5 players sometimes it has 30 players. The game does not scale loot depending on players. As it is right now there will always be unhappy people.
Foraging: is only op at really high level, level 7+? And is already nerfed in the server settings. If you want more then that's a Dev issue and i believe so too because theres a sudden jump from nothing to everything.
Zombie Migration: zombies do migrate but they tend to be lured back with noise from players and to other zombies because they want to group up(which is important to make them more a threat). You will notice they are often on roads leading in and out of towns, because of vehicles. They follow the noise and activity. Zombies are urban based because if they are not, you can have them set to spawn equally everywhere: then the towns are easy to loot because zombies are more spreadout, zombie spawns then need increasing to have a reasonable amount and that causes major system resources when they are everywhere as-well as 20-30 players online now with vehicles. Allot of the settings are tested, tested and stupidly tested in a test server to get the most optimal settings. It is the best as we have it now, towns are dangerous and its good for the server performance this way, as in the hard mode server, I proritize performance the most. less performance means slower vehicle speed, less player slots.

I hope this clears a few things up. I'm not please about everything as nobody ever will be but something are set the way they are for the life of the server and how long it goes without wipes.

Now before I forget, global chat. While this makes it sound cool to have off. It's not, I have ran servers in the past with it off. It's dead and it feels dead. Any player that plays our server will know full well that the chat and community is everything and why it's a great place to be. Why would I make sense to cut that off for a little realism and then end up with a dead server? This is why PvP can be kill on sight as well, you just don't know who you are dealing with and you become skeptical of everybody, so it becomes a less friendly place. I suck at looking at global chat when i play but i would personally prefer it off for the experience, but then on the other hand i know it's bad for the community and people will just use other means such as discord. Griefing or just accidential car stealing becomes a problem when you are silenced too. Sometimes reports come from a good player that sees a new player has had their vehicle stolen for example and doesnt know what to do so they will say in global chat, then they will forward it to discord and the problem gets resolved just another benefit to global chat.

I'm sorry for being quick but i hope it answers everything. Feel free to discuss and be respectfully honest if you don't agree, i don't ignore people, it's just sometimes i have experience from it in the past. I've tweaked allot of things over 4.5 years. I don't want to appear like a snob, i do listen, i do care. I'm just very busy with a life like any other person i guess, so i am sorry if i can't always give the time to stay and chat with everyone, if it's posted in the forum like this then i can at least get around to reading it sometime. I love every single person in our community, they are what make it what it is.
