Steam deck LAN games?
Hello all!
I'm creating a list of all games that are compatible with Steam deck for LAN & WLAN offline multiplayer gaming.

Steam Deck LAN

Specifically for Steam deck to Steam deck and PC to Steam deck. Ideally all these games should work well self hosted and be comfortable with controller. Me and my wife both own steam decks and are capable of testing WLAN games offline. These games should help realize the gamer dream of a LAN party on an airplane, coffee shop, public park, or cramped apartment. The dream of using the Steam deck to bring back LAN gaming without any of the cables, mess, headache or IT skillz.

If you know any games that meet the requirements please leave a comment below! I'll add them to the official list above. It's okay if you haven't tested them yourself I want to get an expansive list that can be tested moving forward.

Additionally, please let us know:
  1. If you tested it yourself
  2. If you played Steam Deck to Steam Deck or PC to Steam Deck
  3. What the max players are
  4. Is it PVP or CO-OP and how many max players
  5. What the Overall experience was like

If you don't know how to set up WLAN with two Steam Decks here's a quick guide:
Connect both Steam Decks to the same Wi-Fi network. On the Steam Deck that will host the game click the Steam button. Go to Settings, then internet, then press A on the Wi-Fi network you are already connected to. Under IPV4 Address It will say IP Address 192.168.x.xxx this is your IP Address that you can share with the player who is going to join your game.
If you don't have access to Wi-Fi you can create a Hotspot on a cellphone. You can connect both Steam Decks to this Wi-Fi, using your phone as the access point. On Android devices it is possible to enable Airplane mode, and then create a hotspot. This will conserve phone data and you may see benefits to in-game latency and battery life on your phone. I've used this method to play Stardew Valley with my wife on airplanes and at the laundromat

Also bonus points for anyone who has set up wired LAN connections on Steam Deck using USB-C to Ethernet Adapters. Either directly connecting two steam decks or using a switch. Tell us if it was worth it!

If you don't want to hotspot from your phone there is a way to set up a shared network by going into desktop mode first.

Originally posted by U/TechnoRedneck from the Steam Deck subreddit:
Click on the wifi/network icon in the task bar, in the popup click the settings button, looks like two settings sliders. This brings up the network menu.

Towards the center bottom is a plus sign, click that to add a new connection, and select "Wi-Fi (shared)" and click create.

By default it will set this new network to mode access point, aka hotspot mode. Give it an SSID, aka network name, then swap to the wifi security tab and choose a password option. If you have no experience with this part only 2 to remember, none is an open wifi network and WPA/WPA2 Personal will let you set a password and treat it like a normal wifi network.

Here is another post which details how to set up a LAN network (no Wi-Fi) using a cabled connection.

You would need docks with gigabit LAN and a normal cable or docks with slower LAN and a crossover cable or docks with slower LAN and two cables and a switch. A switch would still be good in case someone else wants to join you.

I don't know if you could do the configuration in the Steam UI. But at least in desktop mode you would have to give yourself IP addresses. One could be 10.0.0.1 and the other one 10.0.0.2. Both should have the subnet mask 255.255.255.0. If someone else wants to join in just give them 10.0.0.3 and so on.
