Smash 64 Netplay Guide
While there are other ways to play Smash 64 netplay, this way is superior for a couple reasons. One, P2P netplay has far less desynch issues than server netplay, to the point where it is required in Smash 64 netplay tournaments. Two, the AQZ netplay plugin specifically allows up to four people to use P2P netplay, allowing for things like streaming of tournament matches.

P2P GUIDE: http://smashboards.com/threads/port-forwarding-p2p-for-dummies.216489/
You'll want to forward a port. This will be the one you use to host games. Ignore Step 1 of the Smashboards guide, it's irrelevant.

1. Download https://www.dropbox.com/s/8f2uons1c3r2fmu/Project64%202.1.zip
This file is not malicious, despite what your browser may tell you. If your browser won't let you download it, try another browser.

2. Download a "Super Smash Bros. (U)" rom and place it inside the "roms" folder within the emulator folder.

3. Go to File > Choose Rom Directory and choose the "roms" folder containing the "Super Smash Bros. (U)" rom.

4. Go to Options > Settings and uncheck "Pause emulation when window is not active?". Click "Apply".

5. Go to Options > Settings > Plugins > Input (controller) plugin and choose "AQZ NetPlay v0.20". Click Apply and OK.

6. Go to Options > Configure Controller Plugin and select "N-Rage's Direct-Input8 V2 1.83". Configure it if you want to. Click OK.

7. Right-click "Super Smash Bros. (U)" and click "Edit Cheats". Check off "Have All Characters".
a) Click the arrow on the right to slide out another window.
b) Type "Item Switch" in the Name box. Type "800A4937 00FF" in the Code box. Click "New Cheat" followed by "Yes".
Although the emulator already has an item switch cheat, attempting to use it will cause a fatal error.
If Edit Cheats doesn't show up, open the rom and go to System > Cheats, then follow the above steps.

8. Start the game. Use the pop-up window to host or connect with your opponent.
a) Host: /server (forwarded port)
b) Guest: /connect (host IP) (host forwarded port)

9. Once everyone is together, you may start your matches. In case of desynch, please redo the previous step.
