[Outdated: Looking at workarounds] Guide: Five Easy Steps to Getting Star Citizen to launch with Steam
Edit: This guide is out of date as of the new 3.0 launcher update. I'm going to attempt to find work arounds to get Steam to work with Star Citizen again.

This morning when I launched Star Citizen with Steam to enjoy a casual semi-lost walk around my Starfarer, Knifey sent me a Steam message asking "How do you get that to work?", but it turns out "I'm one clever bastard." is not a perfectly reasonable answer. Who knew?

So here is a guide on getting Star Citizen to work with Steam.

Step one: Identify where you put Star Citizen on your computer. I have mine on my E drive (my Star Citizen-dedicated solid state drive), for example, so it appears as:
E:/Cloud Imperium Games/

Step two: Put CIGLauncher on your desktop or Start Menu or something. You still have to open it and log in sometimes. Other times, the server remembers your computer and you don't have to log in.

Step three: Open StarCitizen folder, then open Public folder, then open Bin64 folder, and you will see a lot of .dll files as well as a StarCitizen application. Set that StarCitizen application to be a non-steam game in your library (+ ADD A GAME....) at the bottom of your Steam application.

Step four: Open your CIGLauncher and log in. Make sure you are up to date. DO NOT PRESS LAUNCH.

Step five: Launch that StarCitizen.exe file that you found at Cloud Imperium Games > StarCitizen > Public > Bin64 from your Steam library and wait a few seconds. It will launch.

There you go. For proof that this works, you only have to look at my Steam screenshots. On that note, you will likely need to change screenshotting from F12 to something like your numpad - button to avoid conflict with the in-game chat page that appears anytime you try to take a screenshot. Furthermore, it will allow you to use Steam Overlay just like a regular game, and it will allow you to see frames per second (capped at 60FPS).

I misspoke about the frames per second cap. They are capped at 60, not 30. The guide has been adjusted.
