Seems like a typical project that got out of control and a victim of it's own success (tagging anything with anime like art and erotica is just a recipe to bring all the boys to the yard). I've been in software development for 30+ years and projects are generally mismanaged because they're run by people that have no idea what they're getting into or how to react to things like this when they go off the rails.
There's a gray area here in this instance regarding the money involved and who got paid, who didn't, where the patreon money went, etc. with everyone just pointing fingers at everyone else. Since this looks like the people involved didn't know how deep they were into it, I doubt this will get resolved to any real end as the accountability and tracking of the money is long gone.
Yeah I wouldn't give these guys my money even if I were into these sort of games but I'm not. YMMV.
