Required Files:
http://static.best-ever.org/wads/rageroboenza-5a.wad

----------------------------INFO-------------------------------
What is MM8BDM? This isnt a steam game or a mega man game? Good question because its a fanmade mod of Doom 2 made by Cutmanmike which is as faithful of a first person shooter that megaman can be to the classic series

Here is a setup guide for you to play MM8BDM on our private server!

The server name is :: [BE] New York :: MM8BDM Private DM.
IP: 108.61.83.66:15011
The password is: protonegg

Server Rules: have fun and be nice to others

Here is how to connect to the server:

FOR WINDOWS*:
Step 1: Download MM8BDM from http://cutstuff.net/mm8bdm/
Step 2: Extract the ZIP file that is downloaded to a directory of your choosing; I recommend making a directory directly in C:\
Step 2.5: Download http://static.best-ever.org/wads/newtextcolours1_170.pk3 Put this in the same folder as your MM8BDM files!
Step 3: Run MM8BDM.exe, and select the "Connect" tab. Fill in the following fields:
IP ADDRESS: 108.61.83.66:15011
Demo Recording Filename should be cleared, but will work anyways if it's not.
Click the "add file" button and navigate to the "newtextcolours_170.pk3" file that was downloaded earlier. Select it and its name should appear in the bottom field.
Hit connect.
Step 3.5: You should be told you don't have the correct password. Don't worry, this is normal. To get into the game:
Press escape to open the menu. A dancing metool (orange helmet robot guy) should appear along with a list of options.
Using the arrow keys and enter, go to and select Multiplayer.
Scroll near the bottom to "Server Password". Press enter, and you should be able to edit the "Password" to the correct password. You should probably know what that is if you're reading this
Once your password has been set, you should press escape a few times to go back to the console [blinking white underscore on a blue background with text above it, where Incorrect Password first appeared]. Type reconnect and press enter and you should be in the game!

The following is for if you want to play more MM8BDM!

Want to join more MM8BDM servers? The launcher has a built in link to a tutorial, but it may be slightly outdated. Follow either guide to download and install Doomseeker, the recommended Server Browser for Doom source ports.
Step 4: Download Doomseeker from http://doomseeker.drdteam.org/
Step 5: Install it much the same as you did MM8BDM; I reccomend another directory inside of your MM8BDM folder.
Step 6: Run Doomseeker.exe to open Doomseeker. Ensure the following settings are set:
• In the "Query" dropdown tab, ensure the only option enabled is "Zandronum".
• In the "Options" dropdown tab, open "Configure".
- Under Engines, select Zandronum. Click the three dots next to the "Path to Executable" field and navigate to the directory you extracted MM8BDM to. Select "Zandronum.exe"
*Note: If you finish these steps and selecting a server in Doomseeker causes the single player launcher to appear, you selected MM8BDM.exe instead of Zandronum.exe- Ensure you have the latter in this field.
- In the same Zandronum tab, ENSURE your "Masterserver address" is set to master.zandronum.com:15300 and "Testing Releases" is UNCHECKED.
- In the configure window, locate "File Paths". Select the folder that contains MM8BDM.exe and Zandronum.exe (along with a number of other files).
- Under WadSeeker, select General. For "Directory WadSeeker will put WADs into", select the same directory that you selected for File Paths.
- Under WadSeeker, select Sites. If the website http://www.best-ever.org/wads/ is not listed, add it. This site holds the vast majority of mods you will need to use to connect to servers.
Step 7: Click the funnel icon near the top of the window. In the WADs field, type the following: megagame
Step 8: Try connecting to one of the listed servers. Most will allow you to automatically download all needed mod files and connect, though a very select few may be private and have unobtainable WADs. If "WadSeeker" claims it cannot find the needed mod files for any server, ensure you added the recommended site above.
Step 9: You're done! Visit http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php to learn what's going on in the servers!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1m0mlxf5as24snl/protonEgg.pk3 protonEgg skin, just make a folder labeled "skins", put this in thwre, and change your skin in the options. YOU WILL GIVE ME A SKIN.
Just make sure the folder named Skins is in the same folder as Zandronum.exe and MM8BDM.exe and all your other mod files (This folder might be included in the most recent install of MM8BDM, if it is, just use that one). If you download any music packs or player skins, you should put them in there, but be careful that you don't put anything else in that folder!
The Zombie Invasion server is now up! To connect, you'll need an additional mod file: http://static.best-ever.org/wads/rageroboenza-5a.wad
Add this the same way you did the Textcolors file you downloaded for the base game, but ONLY if you're connecting to the Zombie Invasion (Roboenza) server! And as for the IP, it's right here:
108.61.83.66:15085
:: [BE] New York :: MM8BDM Private Roboenza
I'm having trouble downloading the Mac Version of the game, whenever I download it, and try to open it, it says that the file is damaged, any help?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Mac download isn't up to date. Hopefully somebody else with know-how for Mac will set up a new Mac pack, but there's not much we can do about it for now.

A lot of people were wondering how to be a zombie- If you get infected, your goal is to infect all the other players by getting close to them and shooting them at point blank range. Red and Green zombie lookin' dudes are your allies as a zombie, and the white countdown near your health is your time to live. You can climb walls by attacking them, and you have a super jump on your secondary fire (usually right click, I think).

Of course, as a survivor, your whole goal is to NOT be attacked by a zombie. Fight back, run away, do anything you can to keep out of their clutches!
As I've gotten loads of enjoyment out of this already, I have to say thanks Achromatism and OJ for doing this! This was a great idea and I hope people keep playing even off stream time.

Ok, A few rules might need to get tossed down, Alot of people are looking for cheap frags, Killing tabbed out or typing people. Also a few abusing hidey holes like in fireman's stage. I don't wanna be that guy, but it kinda needs to get said.
Indeed. Also, if someone is kind enough to not kill you when you're afk/typing, at least have the courtesy to not sneak up behind them and kill them anyway when you resume playing...
-Awcrap
Well thanks to King Dumb i appear to have figured out how to connect to the server, so i have changed this post into a tutorial on how.

Loading Mega man 8 bit deathmatch on Linux
Note that i'm doing this on Ubuntu 13.10, so the instructions might need some minor modifications if you're using a different Linux OS.

Step 1: download the game itself and extract the "MM8BDM" folder like normal. Make sure to put it in your home folder.
Step 2: Delete everything in that folder you just extracted except for "MM8BDM-v3b.pk3" and "MEGAGAME.WAD".
Step 3: Download "newtextcolours1_170.pk3" and put it in the folder you just extracted.
Step 4: Download the Linux version of Zandronum [zandronum.com] (Get the "Archive for 64-bit x86" file if you're using the 64 bit OS or the "Archive for 32-bit x86" if you're using a 32 bit OS.) extract everything into your home folder.
Step 5: download this script file [docs.google.com] and put it in your newly extracted "Zandronum" folder.
Step 6: If the file just opens gedit when you select it, right click on the file, select properties, click the permissions tab, then check the "Allow executing file as program" box.
You can now play Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch on Linux without using Wine!
Note 1: If the audio sounds heavily distorted, go into Option>Sound options and set the Audio Output to SDL.
Note 2: If you want to use custom skins, create a skins folder in the Zandronum folder and place them in that.

Connecting to the deathmatch and elemination servers

Step 1: Select Multiplayer and change the server password to Protonegg.
Step 2: Open the command console by selecting Option>Go To Console.
Step 3: type in "connect 108.61.83.66:15011" without qoutation marks if you want to join the Deathmatch server, or type in "connect 108.61.83.66:15039" if you want to join the elimination server.

Connecting to the Roboenza server
Due to the fact this game mode requires an extra file, you need to use a completely seperate script file to run it.

Step 1: Download "rageroboenza-5a.wad" and put in the MM8BDM folder.
Step 2: Download this script file [docs.google.com] and place it in your Zandronum folder.
Step 3: Run the file and go through steps 1 and 2 of connecting to the other 2 servers.
Step 4: type in "connect 108.61.83.66:15085" without quotation marks.
Note: the Roboenza script file can only connect to the roboenza server, trying to connect to the other 2 servers will give you a "Protected lump authentication failed" error.

i completely agree if someone has the menu icon above their head or speech bubble for typing then you really should leave them alone, but dont be that guy who decides i can cheat and go talk mid fight or menu mid fight just to say your being cheap or even doing those things and then while someones off guard quickly stop and take advantage of the fact they thought you had to use the menus

now i know if you do kill someone like that i think it calls them a llama is there anyway to change that to something like please dont be an asshole and kill people in the menus or talking?

I'd hoestly be more for Llama actively deducting points, but as you mentioned, we don't want people then abusing that via tabbing at the last second. I guess for now best we can do is keep tabs and track names of people we know are actively doing so.
Not sure if it's possible in the game's engine, but perhaps program a flag so that if you are damaging someone, you still get the kill even if they suddenly tab out or type...because well why would you decide to do that in the middle of battle. That could prevent people from tab/type sniping. The only way you'd lose points or be called a llama would be if you were killing someone who was tabbed out or typing the entire time you dealt damage to them.

That'd be really good, I'll see if I can find something, or make it if I need to.
@Krvavi Abadas, and anyone else on Linux.
I asked a member of the Cutstuff forums (home base of MM8BDM) who I know uses Linux. She uses Doomseeker so normally does not have to deal with the launcher, but here is what she said:

"Well, I never tried to connect manually because I have always used Doomseeker on Linux.
And I don't fully recall if you have to do the whole Fmod thing with the latest version.
I will test it on a clean VM first and send you the steps I used in a bit.

EDIT: Not-So-Professional Stopgap Solution:
Tell him to try this command from the terminal, from the folder where his zandronum executable file lies:
Code:
./zandronum -iwad ~/MM8BDM/megagame.wad -file ~/MM8BDM/MM8BDM-v3b.pk3 -file ~/MM8BDM/newtextcolours1_170.pk3

And if MM8BDM starts up, he should try the connect and password commands.

I can not promise that it works, because I haven't actually tested it. I don't have the password, you know.
But it works with the Best-Ever vanilla server."

I don't have Linux, so I can't offer much advice myself, but try this! If this doesn't work, I suggest getting Doomseeker (explained in the original discussion post.)

@Discussion of Llamas
Well, it's tough to do anything about llama-ing players. As far as I know there is no way to punish it (if there were, I imagine such a modification would have been made by now.) Changing the name is maybe a possibility, but if that doesn't work there actually is a way to add a message, which would be by adding a graphic to be displayed right above the word 'Llama' and simply making this graphic actual text.

For now, though, at least llama-ing does not have too much effect on Deathmatch (Elimination and Roboenza are a different story, of course.) The best way to deal with it is unfortunately just to try and only talk/use the console when you think you're in a safe area.

Also, you can shoot at people in the little hidey hole in MM1FIR hehe (at least, every hidey hole that I know about :P).

While I'm here, I know the Roboenza server was kind of ruined by the sheer amount of people in it during the last stream; luckily there is a different version of Roboenza that is more similar to Deathmatch (still involves the same general premises Orange Juice outlined, just zombies respawn). This version, called Roboenza Swarm, is much more suited to lots of players. So, next time Protonjon gets a big group to play MM8BDM, you'll have that to look forward to!

I can connect to the server now. But it seems to be completely deserted. I'm not sure if this is a bug or the server really was empty.
