Result:

The longer ranged Japanese battleships attempted to pound the French battleships at their maxiumum range, however mainly missed with the shells hitting doing little damage. The French Air Force sortie was met with Japanese fighters, where a battle amongst the skies took place. The Japanese repelled the sortie however it was not exactly clean cut. The French fleet then began to withdraw back to Saigon, leaving behind the Battleship Courbet to hold off the Japanese as to buy time for the fleet. The Japanese then launched waves of carrier bomber aircraft, with the first waves dealing no damage however with the secondary waves crippling parts of the ship. The captain of the Courbet ordered the ship to strike head on the the IJN fleet, as a final act heroism. The Japanese bombers sustained significant casualties. The Courbet got off a few rounds of shells at the Japanese battleships however did little to no damage. Whilst the combined Japanese battleships utterly pounded the ship into obilivion, with the ship being nothing more but a floating wreck with most crewmen dead, with the survivors being picked up by the IJN and being treated respectuflly due to their heroic actions. The Courbet would be towed and the Japanese would bring it to a shipyard to make it into one of their own battleships.
