Most people say that tablet is better to learn early and it pays off alot later on, as for mouse settings it really is personal choice but im pretty sure you should have it fairly low for accuracy

I'd suggest the tablet too, for me it took about 1-2 weeks until my hand got used to the movements but after that i became alot better than with my mouse, if you're looking for a good but cheap one i can recommend mine, which is an Intuos Pen ( Not Pen and Touch ) which is around 55 euros or 60 dollars. Hopefully this helps, take care ^^

This. If you decide to go with a tablet you could stalk on the Osu! store for osutablets, those are coming in stock soon (!).

I play using a tablet. If you really want to start playing osu standard mode seriously, I would suggest getting one, but it's all down to preferance over mouse or tablet.

I play using a tablet as most osu playiers, but if so,you should start off with a normal mouse to get the feeling of the movements, and then maybe you shall buy a tablet.Osu has their own brand, but if youd like there are other ones to buy aswell.

I use both mouse and tablets. They both have their pros and cons. However, I'm no pro in the game, atleast I can say I'm a decent / mediocre, so I'll go with my own opinions :
Tablets
Pros : Aims easily, great for starting players, can do jumps easier compared to mouse
Cons : Less reliability if you're hovering, need to adjust pen grip and positions for a few tries

Mouse
Pros : More reliability (since it's touching on the mousepad), more challenging & fun.
Cons : Many factors affecting mouse gameplay (i.e. friction with mousepad, pointer precision), harder to reach far jumps.

Oddly enough my mouse and tablet skills are roughly equal.
But in the end, it's a matter of personal preference. Tablets can help you aim better and easily before going into mouse. (atleast for me about 5%, still had to play tablet more). While mouse offers more challenge and satisfaction to the gameplay. Good luck!

i'm a mouse player ... although i think that the tablet is...better?.. i think that holding a pen is far more natural than to use the mouse (you're basically drawing in the game...lol)

i would like to try a tablet eventually.. but i can't afford one atm..

I play with mouse for 4 years now and there are several things you could watch to improve.

Disabling any kind of mouse precision windows could make, best done by having windows mouse settings at 6/11 and the box ticked off and using one of these windows registry edits you can find by googling.

Next thing would be the mouse itself.. I would go for one with optical sensor as every with a laser seems to have forced on cursor precision mode and only few can deactivate it as my last laser mouse had extremely delayed movements too.
Also with just 1000 dpi you could be fine if you use just a plain, cheap standard mouse.

In Osu itself I suggest to set framerate to unlimited or atleast over 120 fps for smooth movement.
And with the time for screen wide jumps I suggest to get used to a fitting mouse sensitivity.
With my 1000 dpi optical mouse I'm right now at 2.0x sensitivity but sadly that thing is broken now...

And my way to improve is simply trying to beat maps that are pretty much impossible maps for you yet or set everything to ar10. With the time you get used to that difficulty. For my part just doing 2-3 maps is enough to make everything below pretty much alot easier to read.

No need for a tablet if you're good with the mouse.
Tablet or Mouse, it's just a matter of choice actually. Each support has its own pros and cons I think. I'm playing with the mouse since the very beginning of my osu! account (6years). Okay, i did a huge break for 4 years. I just got back to the game 3 months ago and never ceased to improve myself.
Also, you have to know that i'm playing with Mouse-only, so, I'm doing everything with just my right hand. I can jump, stream and move without any major issue. Of course I need more training, sometimes you'll face multiple Slider Breaks, but you just have to know that using a tablet doesn't really mean that you'll get better.

You might try both gameplay and see if one fits better than the other one, but as I said, it's just a matter of choice, nobody is forcing you to play with the tablet to "get good". You don't really need that.

All you need is patience, perseverance and practice. :)

I've tried both the mouse and the tablet (don't have the tablet anymore) and personally the tablet does up your game. It takes a while to get used to, but it's worth it. I use the mouse now, and I've realized that if you try you can be just as good with a mouse, as you can with a tablet. Just choose whichever one you're comfortable with. :) Just keep in mind that tablets can be expensive depending on the type you get. The one I had was $100 dollars and it broke in a few months. Keep in mind I'm a clumsy person, so that might have something to do with it.
