[URGENT!]Converting files to MDL?
So I just got a few 3D models thinking that one of them is MDL it turns out none of them are
So any way to convert MAX/ OBJ/ MTL/ FBX 3D models to MDL for it to be usable in SFM?
Any way at all?
Any help would be really appreciated :D

I don't know a great deal about the process, but you need to convert your model into SMD files first, and then create a QC file which will allow you to compile an MDL file. Unfortunately that's about as far as my knowledge on the subject extends.

Depending on how complex the model is, Wallworm Model Tools is a good choice. It's updated regularly and there's plenty of documentation. There's also Wunderboy's MDL exporter.

This is assuming you have 3DS Max, though.

How does this Wallworm work?
Is it simple enough to just import one file and another comes out or do I have to jump through hoops to make it work?

Uhh I don't know about jumping through hoops but what you basically need for a model is a smd file with the model itself (bones and meshes), and an smd file with idle animation (bones only). Then compile it using a QC and GuiStudioMDL

I'm a little bit late with the reply, but for future reference, here's the gist of everything:

Wallworm acts as a one-stop shop for making a model from 3ds Max for SFM. It makes the MDL and everything, exporting your model and the textures. It turns into
1. Make the model in 3ds max
2. Use the script to export material and model to SFM's usermod/content folders
3. Profit

You will need Wunderboy's MDL exporter installed and all the WallWorm scripts properly installed. Whilst there are many tools included in the DL, only scripts I actually utilized were install (the settings script), wallworm_model_tools (main export window), and wallworm_material_merge (which is used to combine all materials and maps into one targa file per object, which is necessary for the export to work).

I recommend looking at this link in order to map all your paths right for SFM: http://www.wallworm.net/index.php/topic,351.15.html

I'm a complete novice at it; although I have my model and everything compiled, and the model works in SFM, I'll admit I can't exactly help you further than that. (example: transparency issues) But hope that link at least gets you started.

Export to 3Ds Max, do the above xD
At least that's what I would do, no need to reinvent the wheel
