Twitch has millions more hours watched than YT, FB, and other livestreaming platforms.
What Maya said can be applied to the world and internet we live in as a whole. Tim-Berners Lee has seen his invention bring about horrendous things. But look, we're here in this group and in this discussion because we share a common interest. COOL.
Now what isn't cool is the crap that can be communicated. Words can damage the mind and soul. That makes those hurt (perhaps butthurt) sad, mad, frightened, distressed, confused, whatever other negative emotions there are, or a combination of aforementioned mental states. Trolls may enjoy schadenfreude. Maybe they were hazed or lost a bet. Regardless, that's no excuse to not man (or woman, I guess) up and properly apologize. “When apologizing to a friend, there is a rule. You promise to do things differently next time, and you keep that promise no matter what.”
I'd say streaming is around the same level as video conferencing when it comes to channel richness. For channels with massive followings, even with slow mode on, chat moves too fast and is full of garbage. So not much interaction can be had between the streamer and viewers. Instead then, talking is usually directed to teammates in VC, friends in group activities, guests brought on, or to transducers of microphones so that audiences can hear and feel like they're right there with them like Yui going to school with Asuna.
It can be wholesome up until a bad guy stream sniper rolls up or a SWAT team is called to doxxed addresses. The problem could be the streamer is the harasser. Same can be said with pranksters who can't make better content. Umm... where am I going with this? "I don't think that you have any insight whatsoever into your capacity for good until you have some well-developed insight into your capacity for evil." Would it not be wonderful if all that energy and time used for lame, toxic stuff was turned for dope, beneficial stuff? Absolutely, and you cannot disagree with me on this.
