This inter-league French tournament, new of its kind, will face off 11 French leagues on a Swiss Round to win The Ulthan’s Shield as trophy.

Here are few words about all the NWC round of 16 matches, which (except the last one) were all absolutely thrilling until their very last turn:

The Lybiedinal Knights vs Chili Con Carne: 1-2

with an efficient and destructive first Bretonnian drive, then a fantastic Gob throw on turn 6 and a long Orc drive in the second Half that gave Helyos final victory for his Chili Con Carne (who had just assured their qualification earlier in the same day with a tie 1-1 against tacetpressim’s Rats, Possum “Aussie” Magic).

HK Kung-Fu Legends vs Ethiopian Nakedmolerats: 4-3 [OT]
A high scored and very intense game between my Woodies and Khornight’s rats (which was the first of our 5 rematches in this round of 16!). The HK Kung-Fu Legends chased the game from the very beginning, losing 2-1 at the end of the first half and 3-2 on turn 13… But, in spite of a great Khornight defence, a very lucky TD on turn 16 (with a failed armour dice for the only player who could score, a jump up catcher who succeeded a 2+, 3+, 3+, 2+ dodge and then catched a long pass over the rats’ line) permits the Woodies to snatch the overtime. This OT was also miraculous for them: they won the toss but a blitz for the Ethiopian Nakedmolerats could have sealed the outcome of the game, the ball being catched by Quecut, the Star Gutter Runner (10-2-5-7), but then came the turn 17 where everything succeeded for the Woodies (blitz, dodge, pick up and throw the ball, go for it 2 times) who scored on turn 18 – and the most dangerous Skaven team of the New World Cup was out!

Elves Salvador vs Brokina Faso Force: 2-1
Because this Peds’ Darkie team had lost his star Witch Elf against Sly’s Chaos, this game was a more balanced one than it was in the first phase - the three Human taclers and five Human guards (!!) facing the two AG 5 Elvish Blitzers. The first drive was a classical Darkie one (8 turns to score, no more no less of course ;-), with a non-classical and very interesting Human defense consisting in circling the ball carrier and those who protect him without ever blitzing the ball carrier itself (even when it appears to be possible), but well Eldar the AG 5 Blitzer has finally managed to find a way to go through this Human moving wall… Then the second half has showed what an AG 5 Side Stepper/Leaper/Stripper Blitzer (the same Eldar) can do in defence and it was just amazing with three successful leaps in the same drive to blitz the ball carrier, then pick up once again the ball recovered and protected by the Human and finally go a third time over the Human line to throw a quick pass and score! Then Peds just had to handle the three last turns, letting the Brokina Faso Force score with only 8 Darkie players still on the pitch, and the Elves Salvador could thus remain undefeated in the NWC with once again the same score (2-1!).

Togo Troop vs Crowns of Sweden: 3-2 [OT]
I’ve already talked about that great game and just repeat here what I’ve written: Oberwald's equalization 2-2 on turn 16 was unbelievable, with a +4, +4, +3 and +2 dodge achieved by his AG4 Catcher (with a reroll). Then the overtime was terrible for Otherguy with two deaths (+ one in the game time), but in spite of a toss lost and with 4 remaining rerolls, he managed to score on turn 24 and crucify the valourous Crowns of Sweden... And now the Togo Troop, which is perhaps the most crippled Dark Elf team is still in the race!

Prolife Squad Scotland vs Swaziland Stars: 2-1
Another rematch with the same final score than the first game! Would it be right to say that thanx to Nuffle and their great players (notably the two AG+1 players – Miss Nightengale, the Witch Elf and Tabdar a Wrestler lineman, as well as 2 tacklers and 1 diving tackler), the Prolifers let once again no chance to Kagrash’s rats to win the game? But the Swaziland Stars had also great players (I say “had” coz now they are unfortunately all fired and the team forever destroyed), notably Totem de la Selva, the ST+1 Rat-Ogre, and Boom the stripper/side stepper AG+1 Gutter runner… And I let Kagrash himself sums up the different phases of the game: “he scored in first half, I tried an OTTD but failed awfully; then I tried another one at 2nd half start and succeed… and the rest of the game, he just bash me till death and scored in the last turn… Thus it was an easy game for him but if I scored that first OTTD, maybe the game could have been different!”

Malaysian Babes vs Swiss Cheeese: 2-1
Another rematch (4-2 for the Swiss Cheeese in the first-phase one) and another round of 16 Woodie vs Skaven confrontation but with an outcome so different from the two other games! It was striking to see how Khornight was able to play so differently his two Skaven teams since their key strengths were not at all the same (no Quecut here, but some wrestling gutter runners and a guard storm vermin!). Moxxel’s Woodies as well as his rats played indeed long drives with cages but I don’t remember the different phases of the game in detail – please, Khor or Moxx, add on it some words below if you can…

Gathered Gambians vs Swedish Acrobats: 1-2
Here was THE Round of 16 Darkie confrontation which was also an almost rematch (Pete had tactically but shamefully conceded the first-phase one)… Two very similar high TV Darkie teams with two ST+1 Blitzers and two great Star Witch Elves, Swedish Chantal Musique (lvl 6) having just one more decisive skill against Otherguy’s one (lvl 5): AG+1! The main twist of the first half driven by the Gambians was on Pete’s turn 6 who used a successful fireball but failed his rerolled pick up! Then Nuffle changed his mind in the second half, Otherguy alone attracting His anger from the turn 11, with a double double skull in the turn 13 and another double skull on turn 15, injuring his Witch Elf instead of letting her next to the ball… Sad last turns for the Gambians who could then just see Chantal Musique crowdsurfing the runner and catching the ball to score a second time on turn 16…

Les Bouthan Train vs The Thai Boxers: 0-2 [Concession]
Well it’s better for me not to comment that game where Ozone’s Darkies made a good defensive start before suffering, from the fearsome Pete’s Chaos full of mighty blows, claws and piling on, one badly hurt and two deaths in the same turn 6 (!!) – deciding Ozone not to go further, even if everything was of course still possible and any abandonment is always severely punished by our Lord and saviour Cthulhu!
