SD Gundam fans, anyone?
Was first introduced into the Super Robot genre with Super Robot Wars A for the GBA, and have been playing the series off-and-on ever since.

A good number of years ago however, was introduced into the SD Gundam series; more specifically G Gen Advance, and G Generation DS. Let me just say, these two games are fantastic, especially G Gen DS.

Unfortunately, the other SD Gundam games I got my hands on, G Gen Wars, and some other ones for PSP just don't have the same feeling as the two previous ones I mentioned have. They just feel like grindfests.

Back to the point: GG Advance and GG DS, felt to me like they were pushing the Super Robot genre into a new and interesting direction which I haven't seen since.

I'll leave a little taste of G Gen DS here, this is from an in-game battle event. There's a decent number of these throughout the game.

So yeah, I highly recommend this game, the combat feels a lot more dynamic than the way SRWs function with either absolute hits or misses; in SD Gundams, virturally all weapons are calculated as multi-hit weapons, except maybe beam sabers or similar melee weaponry.

For example, you could hit an enemy grunt with a dead-on accurate shot from a beam rifle and deal the full damage, or just glance them and deal a fraction; it goes both ways, and really does make the combat much more interesting.

Does anyone think the SRW franchise has gotten a little stale? What are your thoughts on SD Gundam? If anyone has any thoughts on the topic, would love to hear them.

Well, i remember playing SD Gundam X on SNES

Kinda the ancestor from 1992, or so.
The fighting was more action than RPG, but still fun.
And you could fire a Colony Canon !!!

Interesting game. The SD Gundam series seems to spin a few different directions, this one definitely being a new one to me.

Maybe even older ones exist. There are a lot of (SD) gundam games on SNES, including precessoer of Battle assault, well with Gundam Wing only

There's even a CGI animated series which received an English dub; the animation reminds me of an old TV series called Reboot from the 90s.

Yeah, it's not very good. Tried to watch more than one episode a while back, it was a real test of willpower.

I just think it's a testament to how much spinoff content we see derived from SD Gundam, be it good or bad. Heh.

I watched the first seaso(~25 eps) it had some nice ideas, but was totally to the Pokemon audience. Cpt Gundam transforming into a motobike, and getting a "Horsedam" later....

Haha, it's like Digimon/Transformers meets SD Gundam.

On another note-

SD Gundam G Generation: Mono-Eye Gundams

EDIT: Ah, skip to 3:26

Good stuff, always love seeing a throwdown between Undefeated of the East, and the King of Hearts.

My adventure with SD Gundam started quite late with the PS2 title SD Gundam G Gen Seed and the PSP game SD Gundam G Gen portable. The gimmick of the Seed one was that you could chain together basic attacks making longer sequences. The 3D models were also quite nice.

As for SRW they try to innovate from time to time. Like the height difference, breakthrough attacks and other features they tried in NEO and OE. Some features stick and become a part of the mainstay formula.

As for the SD Gundam cartoon the best are the old ones.

I knew there were older ones, but no detail.

I wish they still did these comedy shorts with modern characters and units. The last one I remember was the Seed Character Theater.

I would prefer a god series instead, and IBO seems to bet that. It gets better from ep to ep.
Not the child´s Gundam stuff of last years. Maybe IBO will get those, too ... on BD release.

I've only really seen the anime for SD Gundam Force, but I do own SD Gundam Force for the GBA. Game's alright, but nothing too special. I want to get the PS2 version because it looks infinitely better and I heard it had a bit of free roam to it. The anime I will admit was actually pretty good. The dubbed version, not the subbed version.

One thing I really like about the G Gen games is that they include many units that only exist as MSV and it's often the first time they are actually seen in motion.

And of course the sheer amount of units you can make. From time to time they even send me scratching my head going "where is this thing from?".

SD Gundam G Generation Genesis soon. And in English.
