Barry B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld) is a bee going to work for Honex industries making honey. But Barry's enthusiasm wilts after learning that, once his job is chosen, he will be doing it his entire life. Unable to deal with this, he leaves the hive and heads out onto the world.

After being struck by a tennis ball, he decides to go home but is caught in a rain storm - being force to land on an apartment windowsill. Inside, he meets the occupants - Vanessa (Renee Zellweger) and her boyfriend. After Vanessa rescues Barry from being squashed, they strike up a bond.

One day, while meeting Vanessa at a grocery store, Barry comes to the shocking realization that humans are stealing the bees' honey, and decides to sue them. He wins, and all the honey in the world is returned to the bees.

But now that the bees have all the honey, they can quit their jobs, threatening to destroy our entire eco system - sending Barry and Vanessa scrambling to set their actions right.
